Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated The Abyss (1989) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
James Cameron makes his second appearance on this list with 1989’s The Abyss. This terrifying film that gave countless children nightmares for months follows a civilian diving team as they are enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine. Unbeknownst to them, danger lurks in the deep when they encounter an alien aquatic species.
The special effects may look dated by today’s standards, but The Abyss is over 25 years old and still looks pretty darn good, even in 2019 when CGI has come on so far. Ed Harris puts in a fantastic performance and the eerie depths of the ocean are only matched by the blankness of space in modern-day sci-fi movies. Truly horrifying.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) in Movies
Mar 5, 2019
Accept no substitutes. Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2019) is the real deal.
Powered by a heartfelt and deeply human central performance from Melissa McCarthy and enlivened by a gregariously louche turn from Richard E Grant, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” delivers a plaintive plea for clemency on behalf the embittered, the flawed and the dismissed...

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Pet Sematary (2019) in Movies
Apr 13, 2019
Pet Sematary (2019) just goes to show that when it comes to certain stories, sometimes read is better.
Handsomely produced and atmospherically shot, this re-adaptation of Stephen King’s powerful exploration of grief serves to underline the key message of the original novel: it’s best to let dead things rest...

Jan 11, 2019 (Updated Jan 11, 2019)
The Front Runner (2019) stumbles right out of the gate. #Review
Jason Reitman’s dull but dutiful checkbox biopic rakes over the long-dead ashesof the run-up to the 1988 US Presidential election but fails to find anything to really say beyond a milquetoast critique of the current personality politics which dominates American public life...

Dec 28, 2019
WOW!
I fi ished The Hate U Give on Christmas Eve after it say on my bookshelf for a year! I'm so glad I picked it up as it has been one of my favourite books I've read in 2019.
Very detailed and inspirational piece of writing. It really makes you think about violence and race crime in our society today.

Bohan Reviews (215 KP) rated The Perfection (2019) in Movies
Aug 7, 2019
Earlier this year, Netflix released Velvet Buzzsaw, a horror film about art that came alive and killed people, and if you'd told me that that film would not be the most bizarre and off the wall horror film they released this year, I would not have believed you, yet here we are.

Bohan Reviews (215 KP) rated Wine Country (2019) in Movies
Aug 7, 2019
This film clearly wasn't made for me, and there's a decent chance that I might not have enjoyed it regardless of the quality. Yet, I can still acknowledge if a film has quality despite me not necessarily enjoying it; this is not one of those films.

JUMPCUT ONLINE (77 KP) rated The Current War (2017) in Movies
Aug 6, 2019
The Current War is a visually enthralling historical drama that sometimes gets a bit lost in its cinematic experimentation, but its efforts are greatly commendable. It’s innovative like the pioneers it depicts, daring to take risks within a genre whose films can all too easily fall back on tried-and-tested tropes.
