Bob Mann (459 KP) rated Angel Has Fallen (2019) in Movies
Sep 8, 2019 (Updated Sep 8, 2019)
Mediocre and lumbering action movie.
This has Gerard Butler too old/out of shape to be a credible presidential protection officer. None of the style of Clint Eastwood's "In the Line of Fire" which had a similar story. As a plus point, it didn’t have the distasteful xenophobia of “London Has Fallen” (which I rather generously gave a 3/10). So I feel I should at least top that. But again I feel I’m being generous. It’s all crushingly mediocre, and if I can remember any of it after three months, I’ll be very unlucky indeed!

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Vox Lux (2018) in Movies
May 10, 2019
Vox Lux (2019) kinda sucks
Like its subject, “Vox Lux” is demanding, pretentious and self-congratulatory, although the film takes these traits to the point of cinematic onanism. Occasionally arrestingly shocking, it almost feels like, having grabbed your attention, it doesn’t really know what to do with it beyond hitting you over the head with its achingly obvious allegory for American cultural decline.

Ellie May Shanks (123 KP) rated Five Feet Apart in Books
Dec 28, 2019
One of my best reads in 2019!
If you haven't read this book, or can only refer it to the movie... Go read this now!
From the minute I started reading I could not stop. Such a light hearted yet gripping book about teenagers with CF. I learned so much terminology that goes with CF too. There was tears and laughter... It was a beautiful read.

The Craggus (360 KP) rated Stan & Ollie (2018) in Movies
Jan 21, 2019
Coogan & Reilly disappear into Laurel & Hardy in the gentle biopic Stan & Ollie (2019)
Focussing in on the twilight of their illustrious careers, “Stan & Ollie” pays tribute to the beloved entertainers by taking an affectionate and bittersweet look behind the scenes at their last great collaboration: a music hall tour of the UK while trying to pull together one last motion picture deal.

JUMPCUT ONLINE (77 KP) rated X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) in Movies
Jun 30, 2019
Without sounding overly harsh, Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix is a dud. It lacks the emotional and dramatic sensibility to make the viewer feel any sense of empathetic connection to the material, a worrying issue seeing as we have had enough time with these characters over the years, but more than that it’s just a poorly executed movie.
