Bethany Fletcher (17 KP) rated Goodreads: Book Reviews in Apps
Jun 26, 2018
My only gripe is you can only rate a book up to 5 stars. This doesn’t give you a lot of leeway. For example I recently read a book that was not as bad as others I had rated 3 stars but not as good as my 4 star ratings. So what should I do? That is just me being picky. Goodreads is a fantastic way to keep track of you reading and if you are an avid reader I would highly recommend using Goodreads.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
2 stars for The Strange Case... and 3 stars for The Girl in...
I wasn't sure what to expect with this. It isn't my usual sort of read, though I have read quite a few steampunk books (Lindsay Buroker mainly).
Some aspects of this book I really liked, like the different abilities of Griffin's friends, the storyline was also quite intriguing although I figured out who the bad guy was by about half way through.
Things I wasn't so keen on: the steel corset only came into play after the half way point; I was expecting it to be part of Finley from the start. And the romance. I know that in Victorian times it wasn't acceptable to be left alone with someone of the opposite sex without a chaperone and to just be all in your face with love and romance but I read for the romance and although you know they have feelings for each other, nothing actually happens.
I don't think I'll be continuing the series.

David McK (3547 KP) rated Resolute (The Lost Fleet Outlands #2) in Books
Jun 30, 2024
So maybe not the best jumping-on point for any newcomers.
Although, having said that, I do feel that enough background was given.
Anyway, this still follows (as did both 'The Lost Fleet' and 'The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier') 'Black Jack' Geary, rescued and awoken from hypersleep a century after the outbreak of war between The Alliance and The Syndicate Worlds and now, having brought about an end to that war and the fall of The Syndicate Worlds (some of which are in 'The Lost Stars' series) is heading a diplomatic mission into deep space and (uninvited) into the realm of the mysterious Dancers, but who has to contend with both political and military attempts at sabotage along the way.
As before, I did enjoy the read, and am looking forward to the next - and, I believe, final - entry in the series.

Becs (244 KP) rated Forever (Changers #4) in Books
Mar 19, 2019
I received Forever (Changers Book 4) from LibraryThing to read and review. I have not read books 1 - 3 yet but this little novel is such a hidden gem! The beginning was basically a recap of what happened in the first three books and the authors do such an amazing job with the writing that I was able to read Forever (Changers Book 4) with no problem. So, just because this is the fourth book in the installment doesn't mean that you can't read it as a stand-alone as well.
There is LGBTQ+ representation along with ethnic representation throughout the entirety of the novel. This was seriously a jackpot of a book to get. I enjoyed every second of it and my attention was grabbed and never let go until I put the novel down. As I was reading, I couldn't and didn't want to stop reading. I ended up devouring it in a matter of a 3 day period.
I loved how this was a middle-school grade, young adult, contemporary fantasy but also had hints of sci-fi. Due to the fact that some people changed each year into new individuals. It makes me want to get books 1 - 3 and reread the entire series.
Reasons why I rated it 5 stars:
1. Amazing read!
2. Multiple of different representations.
3. My attention was maintained on the entirety of the novel.
4. Writing was well-done, no grammatical or spelling errors that I saw.
