David McK (3755 KP) rated Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) in Movies

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Terminator: Salvation
Terminator: Genisys
Forget them all.
(as an aside: notice how they get progressively worse as they went along?)
Right from the opening pre-credit sequence, this sets itself up as a sequel to the superlative Terminator 2: Judgment Day, ignoring all the above-named moves (and TV series). It's also no secret that this stars Linda Hamilton's kick-ass Sarah Connor (who was unceremoniously killed off off-screen in Terminator 3, before having her own TV show in the Sarah Connor Chronicles), with Gabriel Luna's Rev-9 a more worthy successor to Robert Patrick's T-1000 than Kristinna Loken's T-X and with the (inevitable) return of Arnie himself as an original series Terminator.
Like the first 2 movies, this is essentially a chase movie, with Connor and co on the run from the Rev-9 (from a future that has never heard of Cyberdyne or Skynet) while trying to protect Natalia Reyes Danni from the Rev-9: I also have to say that, like a lot of James Cameron's movies, this features powerful female roles, with Arnie really only along as back-up.

BobbiesDustyPages (1259 KP) rated Caraval in Books

A world you could truly get swept away in.
I find rating Caraval pretty hard and keep bouncing between 3 and 4 stars on goodreads because, on one hand, the world the Garber built was absolutely amazing it had everything I could have wanted from a book like Caraval. But and let me tell you it's a giant but, I found myself getting so frustrated throughout the book with the main character Scarlett and the frankly half ass attempt at the romance part of the plot I just never really bought the chemistry Garber tried to create between Scarlett and Julian.
I did love the whole mystery of Legend though, so between him and the world of Caraval I will more than likely be reading the next book.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated Heist Society (Heist Society, #1) in Books

I bought this book from a Scholastic book order that I sent home with my 4th graders...yeah, 4th graders. I thought the synopsis looked interesting & I had heard good things about the author.
I enjoyed the book. It is similar to The Italian Job or Ocean's 11, but for a middle/early high school crowd. That is the reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4. The writing was simple, but the plot was interesting if not a bit predictable in places. Of course it is hard for me to judge too harshly because I am not its target audience.
With that being said, it was still a great read! I look forward to continuing to read the series & see what Katarina does with her life.

I tried to like this novel but it just fell short. I give 3 stars for the steamy sex scenes but thats all I enjoyed about it. The heroine Rikki felt too whiny and obnoxious. I seriously felt like she needed to go see a therapist because she clearly has no coping mechanisms to speak of. The rest just felt cliché. A sexy fireman calendar, that pushy friend who speaks in sexual innuendos and thinks that everything can be solved by getting laid, and even a wet t-shirt shower seen. All in all, it felt like a porno come to life. If thats your thing, then you will love this novel but dont expect any depth. Though come to think of it, the author warns the reader of that.
Kristin (149 KP) rated Diary of a haunting in Books

I saw the cover and immediately jumped on this book. Haven't read a good horror in a while, and I was super intrigued. Diary style, no issues with that. Kinda cool in some ways, as we get the MC's version of what's going on in her own words. I even found myself a little creeped out at some points.
This book would've been a solid 4-star rating if it weren't for that ending. It was almost like the author took too long, got to the day before the deadline, then just cobbled some nonsense together and said, "Here, take it." Still, not a bad read up until the last 15 pages or so, and could still be decent for those who aren't uber horror fans.

Idyllic Setting
The (miss)adventures of the retired generation... Over the years a who's who of British stars have turned up in this long running show which started by following 3 completely different retired friends but over time developed into following the supporting cast of the village too... Clegg was a mainstay of the trio, Compo was there for many years until the death of the actor playing him and then various different 3rd character - probably the most well known being Foggy... It would be impossible to sum up the escapades they had over 30+ series in a short review but if you want an easy, silly and quintessentially British comedy - this would be the one to go for...

not for me
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
My review for this will be brief, because I'm not sure I got the whole point!
It gives ghostly vibes in the title (The HAUNTING of ) and the blurb does hint at ghosts (the ethereal specter in the window), but there are no ghosts in this book! It slightly lacks the spooky factor as well.
It was one of those n-i-c-e books, that some folks will gush and praise and love, and others, like myself, will think, what is all the fuss about.
It is well written, though and I did finish it. I'm just really sorry I didn't really get it.
