Hazel (2934 KP) rated Redemption Point (Crimson Lake #2) in Books
Mar 11, 2018
This is a sequel to Crimson Lake; a book I gave 4 stars; this one also gets 4 stars. I really recommend you read Crimson Lake before reading this otherwise you will not get the really important background to the 2 main characters, Ted and Amanda and, I feel, that is essential to get everything out of this story and an understanding of these 2 very different and intriguing characters.
The story has 2 main facets. The first being the murder of two young people and the second of Ted's attempts to clear his name of the violent attack on a young girl. Both parts fit together really well as does the unlikely partnership of Ted and Amanda and the relationship between Ted and his geese!
Well written; funny and sad with a story that will make you shout at it at times and laugh out loud at others, Redemption Point and its predecessor are books I'm glad I didn't miss out on and I would highly recommend.
Thanks go to Ellie Gibbons, Marketing Manager at Cornerstone - Penguin Random House UK and the author, Candice Fox for my copy in return for an honest review.

Kristina (502 KP) rated You Loved Me At My Darkest (You Loved Me, #1) in Books
Dec 7, 2020
I really, really want to give this 4 stars. However, my ratings don't just include how much I enjoyed the story, they also include how I feel about punctuation, misspelled words, and grammar. Honestly, that is the only thing keeping me from giving You Loved Me At My Darkest 4 stars. There were several misspelled words (and I am aware that some of these words are not spelled the American way - I do not considered these words misspelled), some places where words were missing, and a good amount of incorrect punctuation. However! I really, really enjoyed reading this book. Despite it being hard to keep up with perspective (mostly in the beginning), I was easily captivated and it wouldn't let go! The story was heartbreaking, but filled with so much fight and spirit. I didn't want to put it down. My heart beat in sync with Lily's. I felt her pain, I felt her fear, I felt her love. I was more reserved in allowing myself to completely trust Jake, more so than Lily was, but it was easy to see that there was something bigger going on. I definitely do not regret finding Evie's book!
Clare Parrott (294 KP) rated Hearts Under Siege in Books
Feb 13, 2018
Started off well but became more unbelievable as the story progressed. It was a pleasant enough read. I wouldn't really class this as Military romance even though this is what I was led to believe. I thought SEIGE was a bit wishy washy and the bad guys could have been overpowered with a 4 yr old brandishing a water pistol (sorry that was a little unfair) The bad guys could have been a bit more badder! ( Is that even a word?!)
And the dangling knives...what is this a cartoon.

Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated I Am Bat in Books
Jun 18, 2018
I am Bat by Morag Hood is a simple picture book. There are many things children will enjoy about it. The main character, Bat, is grumpy and selfish with his food, but he is adorable. The illustrations are cute and the reader ends up liking this grumpy little bat. The drawings are simple, but are done well. The book touches on fruit, colors, feelings, and hints at friends.
I give this story 4/5 stars.
