Becs (244 KP) rated I Do Not Trust You in Books
Oct 2, 2019
I Do Not Trust You caught my attention right away. I was drawn in by the whole history and archaeology aspect. Which is weird cause history is usually boring to me. I did find some parts to be a bore, but a majority of the novel made up for it.
It would have been nice to have a chart with the correct pronunciation of all the different character/ city names, as I stumbled over them a lot and that causes the reading to become slow and honestly a bit of a bore. The nice thing to see within the story was all of the character and story background/ development.
Throughout the novel, I did find a few grammatical/ sentence structure errors. But overall, I really enjoyed the storyline and the sassiness between Ash and M.
Reasons why I rated it 4 stars:
1. The story was captivating.
2. There were a few sentence structure/ grammatical errors.
3. There was a ton of background on not only the story but also the characters.
4. There’s magic!
5. Sassiness between MC’s was top notch.
6. It was fast-paced.
“He who hesitates is lost.”

Debbiereadsbook (1303 KP) rated 10 Erotic Short Stories Vol.1 in Books
Nov 7, 2021
does what its supposed to!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
10 erotic-themed stories including BDSM, cuckold, threesomes and infidelity.
That is what the blurb says, and that is what you get!
These stories are short and steamy and sexy and they all come with a bit of a twist. I didn't see them coming with the first few but after that, I took to seeing what that twist would be and mostly? I was wrong!
The only thing is, I know they were short, it says the book is 60 odd pages and for ten stories in those 60 odd pages, they have got to be short. And for ME, they were just a tad TOO short, you know? I was just getting into the tale, and boom, its done.
I found them steamy enough, without being too over the top. The steam level I would put at 4 out 5.
BUT!
For delivering exactly what it says on the tin, and giving me a delightful, sexy read between 2 much longer, heavier books...

Debbiereadsbook (1303 KP) rated Humbug: Scrooge Before the Ghosts in Books
Nov 30, 2024
wouldn't have enjoyed as much, had I read it.
Indpendent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted the AUDIO version of this book.
Ok, 2 things: First I've read of this author, and first I've listened to of this narrator. These two things are intertwined.
I really enjoyed this reworking of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It takes us on a more indepth and more deliciously different path that follows Scrooge from the very beginning. I'm not going to go into the storyline too much, but for spoilers, but suffices to say, I really enjoyed the path this took.
The way Whelan builds the world around Scrooge, and gets over the descriptions of the places and the peoples he comes across, is astounding and I could see myself sitting there with Scrooge. Loved the descriptions of everything.
Charles Robert Fox narrates.
Now, for the most part, narrators have American accents, and there is nothing wrong with that but I am so very glad that this narrator was used for this book. His accent is very VERY English and fits in the Victorian England setting so beautifully! He uses a much OLDER voice for Scrooge, when talkignt ot he ghosts, than he does when he is telling his story, and I love that the voice ages as the story goes on.
It goes without saying, that my enjoyment of this book would be very different had I read it, or had a different narrator been used.
I'd like to read more of this author and listen to more of this narrator's work.

BobbiesDustyPages (1259 KP) rated Caraval in Books
Nov 9, 2017 (Updated Sep 15, 2020)
A world you could truly get swept away in.
I find rating Caraval pretty hard and keep bouncing between 3 and 4 stars on goodreads because, on one hand, the world the Garber built was absolutely amazing it had everything I could have wanted from a book like Caraval. But and let me tell you it's a giant but, I found myself getting so frustrated throughout the book with the main character Scarlett and the frankly half ass attempt at the romance part of the plot I just never really bought the chemistry Garber tried to create between Scarlett and Julian.
I did love the whole mystery of Legend though, so between him and the world of Caraval I will more than likely be reading the next book.
