I read the book before it was made into a show. I prefer the book

Emma Watson recommended The Queen of the Tearling in Books (curated)

Alex Wolff recommended Goodnight Mommy (2014) in Movies (curated)
he topic for this months book club pick, was a book made into a movie. And since I bought this book years ago I thought I would read it.
What a disappointment.
I thought it was going to be loosely based on the classic novel by Jane Austen, when in actuality it's her novel word for word, but with a few zombies thrown in for good measure....oh and also ninjas, because that makes sense.
I thought this book had quite a good sense of premise about it, but come on get a bit of originality.
I wouldn't particularly reccomend this book.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another novel that I am not sure why I requested it. Maybe because it sounded like a bad girl good guy trope that I have been interested in lately.
I felt the couple naturally meshed well together. Their chemistry was palpable, their conversation realistic and well written. As a whole, the story was intense and well written. I wasnt ready for such a severe, emotional read but that was what I got. While it was a powerful read, I felt like it was too emotional for me to enjoy. I tend to get caught up in stories, and they wreck me. At this time in my life (nursing school), I am not equipped to handle this.
Overall, there wasnt a lot action in terms of fighting, shooting, or crime stuff in general. I recommend it to all the Law and Order, CSI buffs out there who are looking for a good romance.

Creepily entertaining
I admit, I am a fan of this author and he is one of a very select few that I will buy their book without much hesitation. I love a good horror/creep-fest book every now and again and Iain is more and more my go-to author.
I absolutely devoured this book in less than a day whilst sunning myself, chilling in a hammock whilst on holiday in Portugal - no one spoke to me and I had to keep reminding myself to move I was that hooked; I couldn't put it down.
What's not to love ... great characters, spooky abandoned fun fair, tension, fast pace, easy to read, laugh out loud one-liners and sad moments ... this book has it all BUT I didn't find it particularly scary however, I was very much entertained and isn't that the point?
Recommended for anyone who enjoys a book that gives you the creeps but doesn't like a full blown horror ... I enjoy both 😊
