I liked the book. It added some much needed back-story to a good movie.

What I don't understand is everyone complaining about the ending. I re-watched the movie right after I finished the book, just to see if I missed something...it ended just the same!

So...either I got a bad edition of the book...or I am just missing something glaringly obvious!

This read had a very fascinating setting and characters. This author told the story from a standpoint rarely seen-- originality-- is about the only word I can use to describe it. I thought initially that it would be some boring jr. high library book-- boy was I wrong! I love it when I am pleasantly suprised by originality when I come across it. I would read again.

The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)

"I was raised Catholic and I still consider myself a fairly spiritual person even though I have a hard time identifying with most Christians in this country. But I still maintain a belief in God and in Jesus, and that gets tried on a daily basis. The older I get, the wiser I get, the tougher it is to believe in a divine power or whatnot. So that movie appeals to me on that level alone. To take it beyond, it’s just a fantastic Martin Scorsese picture. Great performances in it. The first portrayal of Christ where I was, “Wow, this might be what it was like.” He wasn’t a guy of all beatitude and perfection. He was a man, first and foremost, who just happened to be the son of God."

Wow, wow, wow!! I really loved this book more than I thought I would. For the first few chapters, I couldn't understand what the hype was all about. However, as I got more in to the book, I understood.

The pacing is fantastic!! I had a hard time stepping away from the book to do real life things. The prose is also amazing!

I loved Celaena's sarcasm the most. I found myself laughing out loud at some of her remarks. I found her to be a very good character =) She was definitely a well-formed character and wasn't some meek little girl.

I also loved Dorian and Choal. I won't say too much because of spoilers, but they were fantastic!!

All of the characters were well-rounded and felt real.

Do NOT give this book a miss. It is definitely a book you will want to read =)

I have just finished this. I liked it. Quite a lot. I do tend to judge books by their covers - bad I know. I didn’t think this was “my type of book” before I read it. I thought it was either “chick lit” which I can’t stand or was too literary for me. But I was in a charity shop a few weeks ago and it was 2 paperbacks for £1. I’d chosen 3 when the assistant pointed this out so I grabbed this absentmindedly to make up the numbers.
What a revelation to read something different. I thought the characters were great especially Eleanor and was eager to read on as small snippets of her history were revealed. It is essentially a story about loneliness and was quite poignant at times. I will be revising my opinions and trying out different genres in future.

I was excited when this book came up. I like retellings of older stories and couldn't wait to get my claws into this. Evie, a sea witch, who has been villinaised by the sea king after a past that seems to be very similar to the tale of the little mermaid. Alia, a mermaid, in love with a human prince and has a deal to be human in exchange for true love's kiss. Runa, Alia's twin, goes topside to save her sister from her fate. I found it very difficult to get into, but I think this was maybe my fault as I had kept in mind that it was a The Little Mermaid twisted tale and found myself trying to link the two. As soon as I managed to get this out of my head and see it more as a related story in a different time and place, I found it far more enjoyable and I absolutely loved it. At times I was a bit confused as I was missing I formation which is no doubt available in Sea Witch (Book 1) which I have stupidly not read. If you like magical tales (or should I say tails) you will love this.

"I got into him a long time ago; again, around the time I was going to university. I think I had a collection that came out around then called Way To Blue. I remember really liking it but perhaps I was too young for it at the time. It wasn’t until a few years later that I went back to it and they’re all just genius. There’s not a bad song on any of those records but I particularly got into the story of him. It’s so sad, you just want to go back in time and try and change it. It must have been so frustrating for him to craft these... I don’t think anyone sounds like Nick Drake and I get furious when people say he’s a kind of folk musician because I just think that’s bullshit. [laughs] Well, maybe it’s not bullshit because he comes from a tradition of songs that have a kind of folk influence in the way that they’re played, and the use of the natural world with stories removed from modern society, I suppose that’s kind of folksy, but for me it’s a bit more, dare I say, a bit more special than that."

I watched this because I heard it was terrifing. However I wasn't scared. It felt more like a suspense myserty that was never truly solved. It was a good movie but I didn't think it was scary at all and I love being scared.

I enjoyed this one. Obviously I am not a child but I do enjoy reading some of the kids section sometimes and I enjoyed this one a lot. Parts of it were silly but overall it was all very good. I am going to look for the next one at the library

I read this for a class again, and I liked it better than when I read it the first time. Since I knew when things were going to happen, I was able to prepare myself for the emotions. The ending could have been better, but oh well. It was still a good book!
