I was excited when I found out I won an advanced copy of this book - I tend to read a lot of the same books and I try to step out of my bubble and read things I normally would not have heard of - and I find myself usually really glad that I did!

I hadn't read The Assistants, by Camille Perri, but it's definitely on my TBR list. This one sounded interesting and it was definitely a great story. I do think it got a little boring in parts, and the character development was pretty lacking.

Katie is fresh off a pretty major breakup with her fiancé when into her shambled life walks Cassidy. The attraction is almost instant for Cassidy and quickly follows with Katie, although pretty confused about her feelings, the story goes on to see how things all fall into place, or fall apart - all while still reeling from a devastating split from a man, and a life she thought she knew and fit into all so well.

I found some things a bit unbelievable and had a hard time taking the attraction between Katie and Cassidy seriously. I'm not sure what sparked it between them - I found it a bit far-fetched, but it was a fun quick read and overall that's fine by me!

GoodFellas (1990)
1990 | Crime, Drama, Thriller

"I read Wiseguy, the book that Goodfellas is based on, before I knew that Goodfellas existed. I was, like, 15 and found it in the school library. Then at the end it was a footnote that was like, “Oh by the way, Scorsese made this into a film.” At 15 or 16, I saw Goodfellas for the first time. Was mesmerized. And then also, it was the first time I probably watched a movie or a film with the beginning of an adult perspective on things. Where it wasn’t just participating in the story, but seeing what a masterpiece it is that someone created that. That those performances individually were so fantastic that the story, the shots, the music… The first time I understood the elements of film coming together, being a conscious choice for those things to be in the film, and then the effect that it had on me. As opposed to being a kid and a viewer, and being like, “I like that thing.” I’m not unique in this, I think, but I can go back every six months and watch that movie and still be so excited to see it. I’m always ready to watch it. I wanted to be Henry Hill as a kid. Growing up in the country with no excitement around us, I wanted to be half Irish, half Italian, and adopted by this family I could never be a part of. That whole scene. I just wanted that life. Or as a kid, I thought I wanted that life."

The Forgotten Girls was a pretty good book. I can’t say it was amazing, but it definitely wasn’t bad. It is a book in a series. It’s designed so you don't have to read the others to enjoy this one and even though I didn’t need the other books in the series to know what was going on, I did feel a little lost at times, and I felt like I was thrown into the middle of a movie (like I skipped the first scene) and it was disconcerting.

That being said, the story itself was okay. It was a good execution of a concept that just wasn't that high. The climax didn’t feel that phenomenal and I felt like it ended just as it got going.

All in all, it was a fine read, I wasn’t annoyed by it, I certainly enjoyed the process, but it didn’t force me to keep reading like some books, and I wasn’t that impressed with the overall experience.

Content/Recommendation: Some language, violence, rape scene (not overly-grotesque). Ages 18+

I really enjoyed this.

I loved Sebastian from that first peek we had as he entered the G.A.P. meeting instead of the dance class next door. I also love a man who can dance, and let me tell you, he can dance! He was very sweet with Maddie and I liked how he went about wooing her, despite her protests after her friend Jessica had already picked him out to "play"

As for Jessica, Maddie's room-mate and friend, I wasn't a fan. Maybe she was blind to the fact Sebastian didn't want her or maybe she was in denial because everyone normally does wants her. Either way, I didn't like how she went about doing things and she came across as a right b*tch by the end.

Hunter was a firm favourite of mine and I wish he got a bit more book time or at least a happy ending, because he was such a sweet kid.

I recommend this to fans of New Adult, it has a different plot to most and like I said, I really enjoyed it.

I have to say that this movie was amazing. I am not a DC fan. Not even close. I find more pleasure in watching Marvel movies. But this movie was so well done that I'll except it into my favorites. I just love how the bad guys are bad but good bad. I don't know if that makes sense but if you've seen it I think you'll understand what I mean. Take a look you might just become a fan of this DC movie

I won this ARC from a Goodreads Giveaway and because of all the great buzz it had already I was really excited to get it. I loved the way the chapters alternated between Sadie and West and I really loved that the ending wasn’t tied up in a nice little package. It felt more realistic which I enjoyed. I would recommend this book to someone and I’ll probably pass it off to a coworker who was really interested in it once I described it.

A book destroyed a woman's life
A publisher tells how her writer's final novel destroys her life as she knows it. Magpie Murders is in two parts, the novel and the publisher's story. I read a lot of mystery novels and I can say I did not see this one coming.

I must admit i'm not a knitter i'm a crocheter but I couldn't help having a sneaky peak at this cute book. Cute pictures and lovely clear instructions that nearly had me breaking out the needles! And the peppermint candy cap is my favourite. I have to say some of the designs are a little bizarre too. A nice book.

"Americanah is a dramatic romance and a coming-of-age story, a class narrative and a comedy of manners. I first read it in 2013 and I was struck with how exactly I related to Adichie’s depiction of the contemporary African immigrant experience. She captures it, expresses it, analyzes it and celebrates it. It’s a story begging to be experienced visually."
