"To find some stuff [for the reissue] I was opening the laptop that I made Nights Out on. When I finished that record the laptop was full so I closed it and put it away. When I was delving back in time I looked at my iTunes and I listened back to this album and suddenly realised that I know all of it really well! I think my girlfriend at the time was really into them, and she put them on and I thought ‘well I don’t like this at all’. I remember listening to his voice and thinking ‘I fucking hate this guy’s voice’, and then after not very long realising that I liked that he was owning his lisp and I started finding it exciting. I must have listened to that record way more than I realised because I know it all really well! When I was listening to it again after I opened up that old computer and for the first time I heard it as a record that definitely influenced a lot of more recent alt-rock bands. There’s a proper disco-y track in there, and it’s sprawling, there’s interludes… it’s a good record!"

I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have not read any of the author’s previous works, nor do I usually read sports romances. I requested this novel because I couldn’t get over how hot the cover was. With a cover like that, it has to be good right? Right! I was definitely not disappointed.

First of all, I know nothing about sports so I was praying there wasn’t a lot of terms I didn’t understand. I was pleased that this was one of those novels that didn’t leave nonsports fan in the dark. I loathe the trope of the man not liking commitment (for whatever reason), but I liked Jackson so much, I didn’t even notice. Reading his interactions were both humorous and pleased the romantic in me.

Duke has an easy style that makes her writing a pleasure to read. I felt that I didn’t have to force myself to be interested nor did I struggle to make it through. There were some “twists”, I guess, but I wasn’t surprised by them. In fact, Leila’s “secret” was kind of a joke.

If you are looking for a heart melting read that will have you both cursing and laughing out loud, then I suggest this novel to you.

It feels like a spoiler, but since Gilman says this at the front of the book, I suppose it isn't: Blood From Stone is the last Retrievers novel, at least for a time. She's moving on to focus on other characters in the Cosa Nostradamus universe. I wasn't happy to read that, but after reading the book, I'm okay with it.

Blood From Stone definitely isn't a book to start with if you're new to Gilman's work. The Retrievers series really does need to be read sequentially. If you have read the rest, you know that Gilman has developed a very interesting universe and some very well-developed characters in the series. Book 6 doesn't disappoint at all, and brings the major plot threads to a very satisfactory close. I can't be more specific without real spoilers, though!

I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next novel in the universe, which will focus on Bonnie and the PUPIs (Private, Unaffiliated, Paranormal Investigators). I adore CSI, Bones, NCIS and the like, so I'm curious as to how forensics will work in urban fantasy settings. Jes Battis' A Flash of Hex is supposed to be waiting for me at the library, so by the time I get to Hard Magic I'll have something else to compare it to.

I thought it started slow and dragged a bit. But once it got going it was a great story. The end was a little to quick and forced, and I didn't relate to the Church stuff - so I could have done without it. I wish the conclusion "whodoneit" part was thought out better- it was a great concept but it all seemed forced into one page of dialogue. #RHMysteryPack #Sponsored

Enjoyable
I loved the humour in this film, I found it hilarious. The acting was great and you didn't really know what was happening!my only downfall to this film was that I had seen another film with a similar concept which was really out of this world and I found myself comparing the 2 quite often.
Definitely worth a watch, for a laugh and a bit of suspense!

I generally find thrillers slightly disappointing and somewhat predictable but I found Before I Go To Sleep an enjoyable exception.

It is a creative, innovative plot and you are really drawn into Christine's world living day by day with her.

I found the ending built in suspense spectacularly and found the novel as a whole compelling.

A good page-turner, intelligently written with a good twist at the end.

Absolutely beautiful artistic renditions throughout. Amazing soundtrack. Great story. Being from the same folks who brought us Your Name, I had very high hopes. I wasn't disappointed, but there were a couple of elements present that I didn't think added much and maybe even detracted a bit, which is why I stopped short of offering a full TEN rating. Still remains a wonderful work that should be checked out.

I didn't really like this album until I heard it live, then it became a little more palatable.
