Magic and romance
This was on tv the other night so I thought i'd give it a try. It is a kids film so I thought it might be too young for me but I actually quite enjoyed it. It moved along swiftly and kept me gripped. There were good special effects and some "magic" that I hadn't seen in films before. There's also a romantic story as a sideline. All in all a good film.

Warriors, come out to play
Ok maybe I missed something? I'm not quite sure about the cult status for this. It's a decent film with a young cast, and probably quite different at the time it was made. However it has a very simple plot, less fighting than I expected and a bit repetitive. I liked the almost comic "uniforms" for the different gangs, some of the fight scenes are pretty good, but overall I was expecting a lot more.

what a book - that was an interesting concept and honestly I kind of thought by the name they were robots - pleasant surprise though this was a very well written book theres just a few issues for me but nothing I couldn't really look past and enjoy the book. I really thought that it was going a whole different direction up until the last bit though honestly what's a weird society like that without some trouble - I am excited for book 2

it finishes on a cliffhanger I did not see coming at me, and I was not prepared!!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
So, here's the thing, right?
I am mighty, MIGHTY annoyed at this book. Why? Because I thought it was a complete story, and it's not: it finishes on a cliffhanger I did not see coming at me, and I hate that! I wasn't prepared, I really wasn't, when it ended, and I am not happy.
It was a great read, though! I was fully engrossed in Merida and her people.
In the now Earth, it was a bit technical, but I kinda read those bits and glanced over the technical jargon used. In the NEW Earth, things were more understandable and I could even follow the politics! There's a lot going on that she isn't privy to, and her people are in danger of being stranded.
But peeps? That cliffhanger means I gotta wait to find out if Merida can get home, if she can find all her people from across the globe, and if her ex gets whatever he deserves!
A quick glance, and I cannot see when I might get my hands on book 2, either. So now, I'm doubly annoyed, with a review to write. Why do I put myself through this, you ask? Let me tell you.
To find books and authors like this: out of my comfort zone and new to me. I loved this book, bar that ending and I'm very pleased, as well as annoyed, that I got to read it.

Dana (24 KP) rated And I Darken (The Conqueror's Saga #1) in Books

So I was listening to this audio book when I was driving to and from Los Angeles area and I've got to say, I found myself drifting my thoughts a lot when listening. I didn't want to stay focused on the plot because it was kind of boring.
I think the biggest problem I had with this book is the lack of female characters. Like, there was one. That's it. Really? I understand this being based on "historical facts" but surely there were females in history. And the fact that this is a fictionalized version of this history makes it more irritating that she didn't add in more females. I don't know, I guess I am just wanting more female representation.
Yes, the main female character was strong, but she was presented in a way that makes femininity seem like it's a weakness, not another kind of strength. She shows love as a hindrance, not as something that can help you want to protect the people you love. I think the message of the book was a little skewed in that respect.
I don't know if I am going to pick up the next book or not. I don't know if I want to keep trying. Yes, the writing style was pretty good, but I don't know if I like the story direction enough to keep going. We shall see.

Marylegs (44 KP) rated After Alice in Books

At this point I honestly don’t know what to write about ‘After Alice’. This SHOULD be a book I enjoy. This is an author I have read other books from and have enjoyed. But in all honesty this book is dire. I am 15%+ into the book, and I can’t honestly tell you what is happening.
The language feels like someone has vomited out a thesaurus. It doesn’t flow and the language doesn’t even feel like it is being used to enhance the descriptive tones. Instead it feels like alternative words are being used for the sake it. Possibly to mask the fact that even though I am over 15% in NOTHING has happened.
I have no bond with the characters. It isn’t even that I dislike them. There has been barely any character building what so ever. I very rarely leave a book unfinished. But I feel like I am reading for the sake of finishing it. And having a toddler I don’t have the time to read a book I am not enjoying.
Very disappointing. I feel like I should have loved it.

It took me a moment to get into it, but I promise you after I kept reading it just got better and better. I loved the ending, it was absolutely wonderful and a great read.
This book has a three characters view. Zelie , Amari, and Inan. Each chapter you get to see how these characters grow and become stronger and show who they truly are. I personally love Amari and the strength you get to see from her and how she grows as a character.
Zelie is such a strong, brave, and talented women, absolutely enjoyed how this character grew stronger as I read further on in the book.
Inan, I cant express how much I love this character. I looked forward to reading his view, he such a mystery and it wanted me to read more about how this character was going to plan out in the story. I cant wait for the next book to come out. I look forward to it cause this story had me hooked to the point I was pulling the book out at work!
