Merissa (13792 KP) rated Scorching the Earth (KTS #4) in Books
Jan 25, 2022 (Updated Jul 5, 2023)
SCORCHING THE EARTH finishes the KTS series, and it only seems fitting that we finish with Hannah and Lily. Hannah is Team Leader and Lily is her second-in-command. Both of them are forces to deal with but can they deal with each other?
This story is told from both perspectives which is a good thing. You have to stay on your toes but, for me, it helped to enhance the story. Lily and Hannah's voices are very different, which is no surprise as they have very different personalities. You find out more about their pasts and their present and hopes for the future. Some of the others obviously show up (on the same team) but this really is Hannah and Lily's story.
It brought to a satisfying conclusion the overall story arc, including who the mole was. I won't say any more on that as I don't want to spoil anything.
This was a great read and a brilliant finale to a wonderful series. I have loved each book and have no hesitation in recommending both this book and the series. Just, please, make sure you read them in order so you know what's going on!

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Breathe (Breakers Hockey #7) in Books
Jul 17, 2023
BREATHE is the seventh book in the Breakers Hockey series and this time it's Theo's turn. He's the playboy of the team, never wanting to settle down. And he has had some major issues with Eva from the very beginning. We now find out why.
Eva and Theo are similar in many ways, and both of them hide their hurt behind walls a mile high. It's only after they've sniped and snarled at each for a while that they begin to realise there might be more between them than just snark. This was a great story showing just how badly family can hurt and also heal.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and its arc, as it moved from enemies, to friends, and then to lovers. Eva and Theo are protective of each other, which I loved. Walker and Dommie have a bit of a sneak story in here. I'm hoping they get to tell their story in full. The pacing is perfect and the little signs of affection - Theo and Eva's love language - is dotted throughout, making this a wonderful read with plenty of emotions.
A great addition to the series and definitely recommended by me.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Deeper Than The Ocean (Deep Six #4) in Books
May 28, 2021 (Updated Jul 26, 2023)
DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN is the fourth book in the Deep Six series but the first one I have read. It definitely can be read as a standalone without missing any of the plot, although I would like to read the others, just to know their stories!
Wolf and Chrissy have an attraction that is off the charts, but due to Chrissy's past and Wolf's stupidity, friends are all they will be, as far as Chrissy's concerned. That all changes when she and Winston are both shot one night. She manages to get help for Winston before collapsing, which triggers all of Wolf's protective instincts.
This was a great story with plenty of witticisms and banter. I loved the misheard lyrics - they definitely made me laugh every time! I also believe the next book will be Romeo and Mia's, or at least it appears that way with the setting up.
I do hope the treasure is eventually found as I found the historical part of this story fascinating. I wonder if it's an overall story arc mentioned in the other books.
This was a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Forsaken Heart (Forsaken Destiny #3) in Books
Apr 27, 2021 (Updated Jul 27, 2023)
FORSAKEN HEART is the third book in the Forsaken Destiny series and we continue where we left off. Echo is recovering from her father's tender ministrations, and Xzavier is currently undergoing the same treatment from his. The others? Well, they're busy trying to be the mate they think Echo wants them to be, rather than who they are.
Echo seemed a bit weaker in this book, maybe because of the aforementioned treatment, so I was incredibly happy when she realised just what she was asking of her mates. I still don't like Proto... and I know I will probably end up liking him because Ms Daniels has something special up her sleeve. But I can honestly say, for three books, I haven't liked him at all.
Another mate has had the bond claimed, which still leaves two hanging by a thread. Tyler is still my favourite by far. The overall story arc moves along and leaves you wanting the next book to continue the story. As will all Maya Daniels' books, the pace is fast and furious, so hold onto your hats.
Best read in order, this is a great addition to the series and recommended by me.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Cross Current (Olympic Cove #4) in Books
Mar 3, 2021 (Updated Aug 2, 2023)
CROSS CURRENT is the fourth book in the Olympic Cove series, and we find ourselves back in the war against Thetis. Matt has just finalised his divorce and is having downtime before he returns to his teaching job. So imagine his surprise when three Selkies and a Mer turn up on his doorstep. Oh, and his neighbours are gods, by the way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and the individuality of having a pentad, and how it worked for them. However, I didn't have as much of a connection with Matt and the others, as I have had in previous books. As I've said, I enjoyed how their relationship worked for them, but being as Matt was with Fionn and Ailith, I don't feel like I knew Duncan or Ceit as much as I wanted to.
This book does move the overall story arc along, but you could also read it as a standalone, as it is pretty much self-explanatory. I think this is a good addition to the series, but it just didn't grab me as much as the others. I still highly recommend it though, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Magic, Demons and the Hunter (Enchanted Ink #2) in Books
Aug 25, 2023
MAGIC, DEMONS AND THE HUNTER is part of the Enchanted Ink multi-author series and features Eliphas and Pierre, who we met in A SCENT LIKE NO OTHER, in the FATED MATES ANTHOLOGY.
This time, Mondo is also around. He is the third part of their triad, and the one Pierre and Eli thought was dead. He is very much alive but missing a chunk of memories, including those that would have sent him to Pierre and Eli.
While I love the coven and the triad in particular, I would have preferred to know more about their world and the demons they face. As it is part of a series, I did feel as though I'd missed out on some world-building by not having read book one yet.
The overall arc isn't over by a long shot and I look forward to reading more in this series and seeing other characters find their mates. I just hope I see more of Mondo, Pierre, and Eli, as they are fantastic characters that made me smile.
Hot, dangerous, flirtatious, honesty - it's all here and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Definitely recommended by me.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Envy (Seven Princes of Sin #5) in Books
May 31, 2023
Please read the TWs!
ENVY is the fifth book in the Seven Princes of Sin series and, in my opinion, you really need to have read the others to receive the full benefit of this one. Also, and it's a biggie, you really need to read the Trigger Warnings for this series. It is hella dark and disturbing in places. Now, moving on…
Aedin is the Prince of Envy. And Becca is Aedin's soul mate. Becca is… troubled, to say the least, and it's not surprising at all when you consider her past. I know all of the soul mates were to be reincarnated into pain and sorrow each time but, oh man, this one was a doozy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, dark as it was, and loved the snippets of information we got about Wrath and Luci. I honestly can't wait for their books! The overall story arc is moving along with each book, and the previous pairs show up in each new one, so it really does help to read them in order.
A fantastic addition to the series and definitely recommended by me. Just, again, please read the TWs!

Merissa (13792 KP) rated Greed (Seven Princes of Sin #4) in Books
May 31, 2023
GREED is the fourth book in the Seven Princes of Sin series and more than one person meets their mate in this one!
Isabel and her two sons, Brandon and Will, were left with nothing when her husband died. He had used all her money and given everything to his mistress. Then she finds out her apartment is being condemned and they will have nowhere to live. With no other options, she goes to Club Greed to see if they can help. The help she receives is nothing like she expected and everything like she needed.
This series just keeps getting better and better. It is dark, in places, which just makes you appreciate the softer moments even more. Michael... gah, I can't wait to see what happens to him. He really is a piece of work. Well, they all are, but you know what I mean!
The overall story arc continues to move along and Lucifer remains an enigma. I would highly recommend you start from the beginning and work your way through, just to ensure you don't miss anything. GREED is a great addition to the series and is definitely recommended by me.

Merissa (13792 KP) rated The Handoff (Big Play, #3) in Books
Jan 17, 2019 (Updated Jun 8, 2023)
The Handoff (Big Play #3) by Jordan Ford
In the third instalment of the Big Play series, we meet Finn in more detail. He is the cool, collected, one that has been there for Colt and Mack throughout. When Mack goes to New Zealand, he asks Finn to keep an eye on his sister as he feels that she is not quite herself. Finn wants to say no but doesn't. Instead, he ends up helping Layla in more ways than he could ever have imagined, and as a result, sees her as a completely different person. Due to Finn's support, Layla changes herself and finds courage when she thought she had none.
With hints being given with the overall story arc, as well as snippets pertaining to Layla directly, this is a wonderful addition. Well written, full of emotion and gripping situations and characters, this is guaranteed to draw you into their story. You will be with Layla and Finn every step of the way, encouraging them to carry on when it seems too hard.
This is one of those series that I absolutely can't wait for the next book, but that is also bittersweet as I know it's the last one. Highly recommended.
