Ross (3284 KP) rated Mindhunter - Season 1 in TV
Sep 2, 2020
Includes portrayals of some famous serial killers, Edmond Kemper's is sublime, as they are interviewed to try and assess what drove them to commit their atrocious crimes (spoiler: it's usually their mums and absent dads).
Excellently acted, Jonathan Groff is a perfect antisocial, driven investigator who doesn't pull his punches and shares a lot of personality traits with those he is analysing.
This series was a gentle introduction to their methodology and starting to use it to identify who may have committed crimes - this is done at a good pace, rather than getting drawn into a "one crime per episode" mentality.

Elli H Burton (1288 KP) rated Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) in Movies
Jun 15, 2019
As one of, if not the first full makeover film it sets the standard for all future films of the same thing. As a child, I thought Mrs. Doubtfire was a separate actress!
I love this film somewhat more now as an adult because it tackles real life problems. The divorced parents especially, as this seems more and more common these days. It also shows a loving father, willing to do anything to be with his children which is such a breath of fresh air after so many films with absent fathers that couldn't give a damn.
Lastly, it's Robin Williams so you know you're in for a good one, may he rest in piece.
Fully recommended!
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2200 KP) rated Lord of the Wings (Meg Langslow, #19) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
I love this series, and this book is another fun addition. When I realized it was set at Halloween, I almost set it aside until October, but I just couldn’t wait. The characters are strong and charming as always, and the various aspects of the plot keep things moving forward quickly. I was disappointed that one character introduced a couple books back is once again absent, but that is my only complaint in another fantastic read.

I was lucky enough to win a free copy of Matthew crow's `In Bloom` from the good reads giveaway.
I have never read anything from this author before,so I didn't know what to expect, but I can tell you I wasn't disappointed.
The story is told by fifteen year old Francis Wootton who has recently discovered he has leukaemia. Francis is very intellectual and grown up for his age, this could be due to his dysfunctional family( gay brother, absent father, mad grandmother).
During Francis treatment he meets Amber and their love blossoms, crow covers love, relationship, bravery and hardship within this book
I think this book would be classed as young adult, and very much reminds me of sue Townsend's Adrian mole.
I will be looking out for more books from this author.
Toni M (6 KP) rated A Dark and Twisted Tide (Lacey Flint #4) in Books
Aug 22, 2018
In spite of the fact that Joesbury is largely absent from this book, the Mark/Lacey storyline features more prominently than it did in Lost (or Like This, For Ever, depending which edition you read). I was really missing it in the last book so I was happy to see more of it this time around.
Finally, Thessa's character is well-written and beautifully portrayed. I fell in love with her straight away.
I've got Here Be Dragons next on my reading list and I have high hopes for it. Still, I can't wait for the next full-length novel in this series!
