Kristina (502 KP) rated The Quickie in Books

BookReporter.com says, "Action? Check." Very true. It was pretty action packed. "Suspense? By the carload." Fact, the suspense, twists, and turns just kept coming. "Romance? Yes." Now I know why their answer is so vague and only one word - anything that could be considered romance occurs before the 11th chapter (and these were some short chapters!). "Erotica? Let's just say that it's not limited to the cover." Error, error! What Patterson has written couldn't even touch the average erotica novel - I've written more erotic scenarios. I know erotica isn't James' forte and it didn't take away from the story, I was just disappointed in this part of BookReporter's review. I can tell you I never would have predicted the ending and there was no way I could have foreseen some of the shocking revelations within the book. It's shocker after shocker. Once again, Patterson has managed to write another brilliant suspense!

A thrill a minute
I have only read one Koontz book before and that was a very early one, so didn't know what I was going to get. The blurb on the cover grabbed me which is why I had to try it and I am glad I did... I found the story well written and composed and the short paragraph blocks made it an easy read, if an unusual style... It reminded me of Richard Laymons style of writing which I really enjoy...
The plot although far fetched is enjoyable and makes you think what you would do if you were put in the same position. It is suspenseful, action packed and violent in places but you do find yourself drawn in to the situation and feel for the characters involved.
For a quick and easy read it is worth giving a go.

Aug 11, 2020 (Updated Aug 11, 2020)
As an insomniac, I struggle with finding ways to entertain myself for hours... enter my new now tv subscription. And discovering Strike Back. I am not exactly watching them in the intended seasonal order.
Strike Back (season 5) Legacy is a ten part high octane fuelled, action packed explosive drama series, featuring some very familiar faces, some bad language and lots of guns.
This season sees Stonebridge, Scott and the team go through some highs and lows travelling the world from Thailand to North Korea and then Switzerland and the US. They take on a number of bad guys, in completely impossible situations bring some sex and comedy to the mix. It’s hard not to like these two and their antics. Expect some loss, heartache and heroics.
If you are after all out action, easy to follow story lines and basic entertainment, this is the show for you

Second books in trilogies tend to be the books where the author draws breath and gets things set up for the third and final instalment. So I was happily surprised when this turned out to be as action packed and as full of unanswered questions as the first book. I mean, some questions are answered, but others replace them. It’s all action, there’s loads of science - whether it’s real, fact based science, I neither know nor care. What I REALLY like, is when an author writes something with such certainty that you’ll believe whatever you read. Even if your best friend is a geneticist who decides to debunk everything you read (I thankfully have no geneticist friends, but the Chemist husband makes up for it!)
Ok, so this book leaves us well and truly set up for the big finale, and I’m really looking forward to it!

Exciting, action-packed fantasy
** Disclosure - I received a free advance copy of this from the publishers and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review **
A Time of Blood is the second book in John Gwynne's second series and I can happily say this is his best yet in my opinion.
The action carries on from the previous book with the evil Kadoshim minions rising up and trying to get back to power. The forces of good also start to muster, though there are still divisions and suspicions between the various groups which hamper their successes.
Drem, the trapper, really develops into a brilliant hero character without any prophecy nonsense for once, and surrounds himself with a strong cast of enjoyable diverse companions.
The first half of the book sees Drem and his companions travelling to escape the evil horde and warn others of the uprising they have witnessed. This journey is non-stop action and a thrill to read.
Meanwhile we have the recently airborne Riv who is battling with politics and prejudice to retake her place in the army. These chapters are much slower paced but vital.
The balance between chapters and characters in the book allow Gwynne to fit the story in while keeping the action flowing at a good pace.
A very enjoyable and exciting read.

Chris Pratt steals the show
I loved this! Just as much as I enjoyed the first one. Chris Pratt brings so much humour and "normalmess" to the film. Finding out more about his character and watching the developing relationships and new relationships form felt personal. It had such a feel good feeling surrounding it even when emotions were high. Of course it was action packed with a strong vast. I didn't think baby groot could have had a decent role with this film, but I was surprised and accepting of his role and appearance. I could watch this over and over.
I can't forget to add that the soundtrack is awesome!

Extraordinary
Altered carbon offers a unique telling of a futuristic world. Whilst continued if over representative, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer concept. It gives view to the struggle of society. Through a well scripted action packed series. The character developments is done well through the episode. Though the story does seem to lose itself in places where certain lacking details are clearly evident, this is compensated in other parts which brings the episodes back together. This is must watch show, for sci-fi and crime dectice enthusiast. It like a good book, once you start watching you can't stop.
