A three man team of soldiers is sent behind enemy lines to find and retrieve an elite corporate son, who should have been protected by his 'Ironclad' armour. It's fast moving (it's a novella, so the action has to come hard and fast), and jam packed with science fiction goodies.
The Conglomerates, originating in the USA, are 'annexing' other countries and eliminating socialism or anything that isn't capitalism. They are currently fighting against the Nord forces (Scandinavia) and not having an easy time of it - largely because of the Finns and their penchant for some serious biological tweaking.
I have to admit that I wasn't completely sure whether I'd enjoy this. It is essentially a war story. How wrong could I be though? The main character, Ted Regan, narrates the story, and we see everything from his perspective. They're all great, well written characters (except for the British one - why are they always the unlikeable ones?).
There isn't as much detail as there would be in a full length novel, but that's the nature of a novella, and to be honest I'm a fan of filling in the information yourself.
This has 'Movie Deal' written all over it, and I know plenty of people who would love to watch it! I'm going to have to get cracking on my other Tchaikovsky books on my bookshelf now that I've had a taste!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of the book to read!

Girl in the Mist by S.T. Young
Girl in the Mist is an exceptional book that tells the story of Rory and Nina/Lena/Thyra/Octavia/Joey. Nina was a child soldier and has ended up being locked away in a very dodgy mental institution where she is subjected to 'treatment' including drugging and electric shock. Due to everything she goes through, her personality splinters and become separate. Rory is trying to find these child soldiers and will do all he can to help her. Not that easy to start with, but especially not when you have someone on your tail, and even manages to get one step ahead.

The writing is simply outstanding as each of these personalities have their part to play, and are completely different from the others. The story is well-told, with a smooth pace and action packed. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. The story itself is interesting and full of twists and turns that will keep your attention glued to the page. I can only imagine how much research must have gone into the making of this novel, and I applaud the authors for the outstanding results. Absolutely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

I am adding this to my TBR list.

oh nooo.. It's over. This was amazing... so much AMAZING! I can't believe it is over it was soo good. When I started this series I was iffy.. Fantasy isn't always a favorite genre for me. It is hit or miss, but this series is a total HIT. The depth in this series is wonderful. The scenery and imagery that is portrayed is also wonderful. I felt as if I was seeing everything through Ian's eyes as it was happening. I felt as if I was feeling everything through him as well. This was action packed and fast moving. The characters were complex and felt things so strongly. I really enjoyed the sex and love parts as well. I don't think I see much sex in fantasy books I've read in the past and this was well done, not erotic. It was very enjoyable. The writing kept me on the edge of my seat. I had to keep going and keep going and stay up late to read. C.L. described the beauty in such a way that it felt as if I was there with them, but also the battles and the bloody. It was so awesome to read and see in my mind as it was happening in the story. I am so glad I gave this series a chance and fell in love with these words and this author. Amazing, so very amazing.

I have really been winning with the classic paranormals lately. Don’t get me wrong, I love reading authors’ new creations and mythologies, but sometimes, the classics are just tops. A good ole fashion feud between vampires and werewolves? Yes please! Not only that but it was done well.

It was difficult not to love the hero. At first, you think he is going to be just another Alpha. Then you are treated to an open loving man who is willing to modify his actions and thoughts rather than remain unyielding. The heroine was a little more complicated. I agreed with her sense of independence and thoughts about violence. However, you can be independent and still have a partner. At times, Vee is stubborn and set in her ways to the point of being obnoxious. I am all for strong independent women, but I am tired of them associating it with being alone.

Overall, it was a great paranormal novel. An interesting world inhabited by good characters and an action-packed plot to keep you reading until the end. The chemistry didn’t seem forced, and I couldn’t have asked for a more satisfactory ending. I believe this is a standalone for the author, but you can bet I am going to check out some of her other work.

If you are looking for a good paranormal romance for a rainy day, this one’s for you!
