Hilarious
So many times the movie trailers show all the funny lines and then you end up disappointed once you finally see the movie. Not with this one. This movie had the entire theater laughing, young and old, from start to finish. It's amazing to me that they can actually continue to develop the characters in this fast past and at times ridiculous adventure but they somehow do.

The only part that seemed a bit out of place was Kurt Russell's character. Throwing him in there suddenly as dad, and a shallow and self-absorbed at that, just seemed a bit out of place. Of course it did create the dramatic opportunity for our Guardians to save the Galaxy so it did serve a purpose. Had this character been just a bit more developed I would have given the movie a "perfect" rating.

Dated but still a fun ride
The Jules Verne classic novel of adventure and mayhem comes to life on the big screen in glorious CinemaScope!

Follow a scientist, his assistant, a beautiful widow and others as they decent into the depths of the Earth itself to see what lies beneath. They encounter all sorts of pitfalls including treacherous caves, salt mines and giant lizards along the way.

Will they make it out alive?

Unfortunately, there is the 1950s version of the views of the female race on display which I was not a fan of. If you can get past that, the acting and story are interesting enough as you watch the posse go along their way.

The sets, music and art direction are well done considering this film's age, and if you can look past some of the cheesy elements it really is quite the adventure ride of a film.

Fantasy at its finest
Every girl dreams of being thrown into a mystery full of magic, love and wonder... but at what price?

Scarlett dreams of the world of Caraval for years, begs for them to visit so she can see the show. Finally she is accepted to attend a private show with her sister before she is to be married to a man she has never even met.

She is thrust into a world of adventure with her sister and an unlikely companion, but the unlikely one is always the one you should watch out for.

After her sister is kidnapped Scarlett what complete the game is get her back unharmed. This book if full of mind games, magic, and plenty of adventure. It is sure to keep you interested until the last page. I for one can't wait to read the next book!!

Just remember, all the best books have a suprise twist at the end!

Design is awesome (2 more)
Mechanics are fun and easy to teach
Mechanics have lots of replayability
Stories can get repetitive (0 more)
Above and Below is a great introductory game to adventure mechanics. Nothing in the game is difficult, and players can feel accomplished, even in their first game. But there is also enough variety to allow for great replay ability and to still keep the game interesting for experienced tabletop players.

And oh man, is the design awesome. You'll be amazed at the level of detail that went in to the cartoony graphic design.

Ultimately, the biggest downfall is the lack of adventure stories. You might think I'm crazy, because there are 208. But in just a few games, we managed to replay quite a few stories. This is less than ideal, because not knowing the outcomes of the stories is integral to the gameplay. Perhaps this is something that the expansions fix, but I have not played them.

The Most Dangerous Game (1932)
The Most Dangerous Game (1932)
1932 | Classics, Drama, Horror
(Can't see that movie about people being hunted for entertainment as all the cinemas are shut, so went for this instead (the daddy of the genre).) Much mimicked pulp adventure movie. Big-game hunter survives a shipwreck but pitches up on the private island of an insane Russian aristo who hunts people for sport.

Slots very nicely into the development of early-30s genre cinema - the premise vaguely recalls Dracula, while many of the key personnel would go on to make King Kong the following year. Still stands up well as an adventure movie in many ways; above average script, some rousing set pieces, and an enjoyably extravagant performance from Leslie Banks as the bad guy. The short running time does count against it though (the hunt only gets underway in the final third of the movie). One of the progenitors of the modern action blockbuster, and a fine movie in its own right.
