Not an original concept, but enjoyable watch
To be fair, I had never heard of the Hunger Games series before the film came out. So when I watched it my first reaction was - this is a rip off Battle Royale! Obviously that changed after the other films came out. However, I enjoyed the concept - because I loved BR. And I especially liked Jennifer Lawrence who always plays such fabulously gritty characters such as in The Winter's Bone. It's not a film you can watch repeatedly though because it is rather dark, and there are zero comedy elements in this dystopian fantasy (obviously). That being said, great acting all round.

Adam Sandler at his best
Over the years each time an adam sandler film has come out it has always been dreadful and somehow worse than the last one but the wedding singer reminds us of when his films were actually half decent and sandler was funny.

A very basic storyline that was executed perfectly with characters you could care for and jokes that made you laugh. The standout part for me everytime I revisit this film is when he sings the song he wrote, half of when he was with his fiancee and the other half after she dumped him and you have Jon lovitz smirking in delight at Sandler's misfortune..classic stuff!.

The second - and, following his untimely death in 2015, last - of the late, great Sir Terry Pratchett's Moist von Lipwig sub-series of Discworld novels (after 'Going Postal'), that see's Moist himself put in charge of the ailing Ankh-Morpork central bank, and introducing - shock! gasp! - a new form of paper currency.

To my recollection, this also is one of the few Discworld novels (41 in total, of which this was number 36) in which the Patrician plays a central role - he's in more than a few, yes, but not always to this extent - and in which he is fleshed out as a character. I would loved to have seen where his plans for Moist would have taken him ...

I actually did not have any expectations for this novel when I received this book. I was a bit reluctant to read it after the slew of horrible young adult novels I always seem to find. While it was not terrible, I was not impressed.

I like Balog's easy style. It did not leave anything to the imagination unless she wanted it to and I loved how she captured her character's personalities so vividly. That does not mean I necessarily liked her characters.

I was also annoyed by how easily Morgan seemed to drift away from Cam and towards Pip. It is not completely unheard of, but it just seemed..odd considering the circumstance.

After an injury leaves Eve unable to dance, she becomes the head chef at her family's Italian restaurant. One more, she arrives to find a dead man in the kitchen. She's even more shocked to learn the dead man is her grandmother's current boyfriend. Why was he there? And can Eve keep her grandmother out of prison?

The cast of characters was a little too large, and I had a hard time keeping them all straight at first. They came into focus as things went along, and the plot was always moving forward. An absolutely fun debut.

Odelia and her husband Greg are attending a quad rugby tournament when a friend of theirs is accused of killing a jerk on the opposing team. Meanwhile, Odelia’s boss Mike Steel is acting strangely after being beat up while out of town.

Between the two stories, this book is always moving forward. I found both of them intriguing and never wanted to put the book down. The sub-plot with Steel provides us with some great laughs. The characters are as well-developed and charming as ever, which adds to the fun.
