Ross (3284 KP) rated First Take by Roberta Flack in Music
Apr 16, 2021
Rolling Stone's 451st greatest album of all time (2020)
Brilliant soft brooding jazz album. Flack's soaring vocals laid over tender piano and an excellent backing band make for some wonderful music.

Rolling Stone's 353rd greatest album of all time
Superb hip hop album, even for a part-time listener like me. Great, intelligent melodies and lyrics, and a range of guest vocalists.

Rolling Stone's 330th greatest album of all time
A fairly sombre album by Neil Young, chronicling a number of personal issues and loss. Nothing exceptional but quite a raw, emotional performance.

Rolling Stone's 316th greatest album of all time
Fairly forgettable art-rock album to my tastes. Much mellower than their previous albums, it actually loses some of the character from them.

Rolling Stone's 181st greatest album of all time
Great soft paced reggae album from the best in the business. Not packed with familiar hits but a great band playing great songs.

Great Costello album, includes Red Shoes, Alison and Watchin the Detectives and is one of his best albums.

A Superb Debut Album!
An excellent debut album from a very talented musician.
The songwriting on this album, done entirely by herself and her brother, is excellent, creating a dark, yet somehow relatable atmosphere throughout. Once I first heard the beat of "Bad Guy" I knew I wanted more, so I purchased this album and her 2017 EP "Don't Smile at Me".
The production on the album, also done by her brother is good, but the use of vocoding (not autotuning!) is used gratuitously throughout, especially on "Xanny", occasionally masking the singer's soft, excellent voice.
