Exile on Main St. by The Rolling Stones
Exile on Main St. by The Rolling Stones
1972 | Rock
First thought on hearing this cleaned-up edition of the most notoriously dirty album in rock history: “Oh, good, I can finally understand the words.” Second thought: “Oh, wait—I don’t want to understand the words.”
Critic- Michaelangelo Matos

Head Full of Dreams by Coldplay

Mr. Martin, who has rediscovered the radiant properties of his voice, gilds a lot of lyrical treacle and borderline nonsense here. But on “Amazing Day,” he articulates a philosophical worldview:

Johannesburg by Mumford & Sons
Johannesburg by Mumford & Sons
2016 | Alternative
It’s always good to hear an established act explore outside their comfort zone, and especially so in this collaboration of the Mumfords with Senegalese legend Baaba Maal

Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons
Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons
2009 | Rock
Sign No More is a fine debut from a band that’s patiently picked up the tools of its trade, and chosen the right moment to give them full rein. If Mumford & Sons aren’t exactly keeping it real, they’re certainly keeping it in the family.

Lust For Life by Lana Del Rey
Lust For Life by Lana Del Rey
2017 | Alternative, Indie, Rock
While many of the song titles and clumsy references may have a discerning music fan scoffing at Del Rey’s predictability, there remains an admirably unflinching quality to this record (even if it is five tracks too long)
Critic- Harriet Gibsone

American Dream by LCD Soundsystem
American Dream by LCD Soundsystem
2017 | Punk, Rock
Nothing here equals 2007’s era-defining ‘All My Friends’.But even that’s accidentally definitive, because who could pin down this f**ked-up age? The band retains the uncanny power to encapsulate a place and time. This is a cautious return

Harry Styles by Harry Styles
Harry Styles by Harry Styles
2017 | Rock
Styles had a hand in writing every track on the album, and there’s a surprising amount of homage paid to classic FM rock – he’s at his best when he cuts loose and has some fun, as on the raucous rocker Kiwi

Rolling Stone's 491st greatest album of all time
This was quite a pleasant surprise, a good selection of blues numbers, except the final song which was more like Louis Armstrong.
Crosscut Saw reminded me of the theme tune to the sitcom Bottom, and I was a little surprised that Danzig had covered Albert King's The Hunter, I had thought it was his original.
