Better than Expected
Was surprised by this was expecting it to be a complete dross. But went by quickly enough brilliant cast. Big fan of the Nick Frost and Jaime Winstone cameos. I don't think Alicia Vikander is better than Angeline Jolie. But all in all great action flick which I'm sure will start a franchise

Alicia Vikander Lights up the Screen
Following up his powerful Norwegian disaster movie THE WAVE with this big budgeted English language debut reboot of the video game to big screen series TOMB RAIDER, director Roar Uthaug delivers a fun, fast-paced new take on the series.
Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander picks up the baton left by our previous Lara Croft, Angelina Jolie and has a blast in what is essentially a female spin on INDIANA JONES and NATIONAL TREASURE.
While the film gets pretty ridiculous as it continues, the eye-catching effects and sharp visual visual style, as well as terrific turns by Dominic West and Walton Goggins as her father and the film's villain respectively keep you invested, even if you'll forget it almost as quickly as you've seen it.

Early noughties film based in the 90s series of video games of the same name (snore the so-called 'Survivor' trilogy), with Angelina Jolie embodying Lara Croft far more, IMO, than Alicia Vikander would ever do.
The plot?
Completely nonsensical (something to do with The Illuminati and the control of time) but you don't watch these types of movies for the plot but to be entertained instead...

Bog-standard action runaround is lifted enormously by proper, non-pneumatic performance from Alicia Vikander as Crofty. Feisty heiress goes in search of missing dad, ends up on desert island with hissable bad guys and tomb; soon there is much running down collapsing corridors and many death-defying leaps.
Vikander keeps it real and plays Croft as a proper human being, and is the main - probably only - reason to watch an otherwise undistinguished film. Bad guys are dull, good guys too; special effects are okay but nothing really special. I suppose it's somewhat notable for the way it keeps the audience guessing about what genre it's going for. Still, much more fun than watching either of the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies, but then so is sawing off your own feet.

Found another great sci-fi drama/ thriller on Netflix called "Ex Machina"(not Netflix exclusive). The acting and cinematography were really good. The story unfolds beautifully and ends with a really good twist. This is a really thought provoking movie about technology and keeps you interested throughout. Alicia Vikander was amazing. She played her part perfectly. There is some full frontal female nudity, but not sex(deals with robots that look human). Not really for kids, but this one is really worth a watch!

Kind of forgettable
Alicia Vikander is perfectly cast as Lara Croft, but doesn't have much to do in this very predictable, nothing new story. Feels like The Mummy movies, kind of boring in some parts and the 3rd act is a big let down.
Maybe they tried to play this one a little less on the CGI which is great, but still has to be interesting.
Hopefully, they will still make another on of these but make it more interesting.

Extremely slow, slightly frustrating plot
I did find the plot pace a little too slow, and the female character Isabelle, played by Alicia Vikander, exceedingly frustrating. I can't remember how many times I rolled my eyes at her antics. Only the last few scenes were the best in the whole film where I almost shed a tear. Michael Fassbender, as per usual gives a stirring straightforward performance as did Rachel Weisz. The story needs a lot of polishing though. Babies tend not to arrive by boat in the middle of the ocean like a biblical story just like random floating messages in bottles.
