Excellent speculative movie even if it was somewhat optimistic.

This movie poses and excellent problem of what it would be like if an advanced alien species visited Earth and what form that would take. I found the design of the aliens and the extent of their technology to be interesting but what I found more fascinating was how they were able to come up with a language that is at one time alien but also somewhat familiar using basic linguistic theory that is common to all languages and yet come up with something completely out of the box. Despite being an excellent film posing complex and thought provoking questions, I found the timeline and the flashbacks to be confusing and the ending of the film posing more questions than answers. The telling of the story is as complex as a tesseract or 4th dimensional hypercube trying to describe itself to a three dimensional cube. There simply is no common frame of reference to begin to understand the multidimensionality of the film.

Not the usual alien movie.
It's not all over glorified action, instead it is a slow burn, centering around a small rebellion, with the feel of a government espionage/spy thriller.
Overall it felt slightly predictable but I wasn't hugely invested, so was happy to go along for the ride, and just enjoy it for what it was.
There are some acting giants here, that deliver as usual, but were given such short screen time for it to have much impact.
A couple of newbies, that I hadn't encountered, held up the leads, but unfortunately for them they weren't given much to work with, or build on for you too truly feel for them.
It certainly wasn't a bad film, it had some interesting moments but it will likely have faded from my purview within a week or two.
Don't watch if you're into all out battles with humans vs aliens going toe-to-toe, and trying to outsmart each other.
Do watch if you enjoy the slow unfolding of a spy thriller, with small doses of peril peppered throughout (and aliens just to spice it up a little).

Great Sequel
Aliens, being the long standing sequel set 57 years later certainly gets the action going right away. Sigourney Weaver plays the character fantastic and James Cameron directs the film in his frenetic style. Love the mechs! The acting for the supporting cast isn't stellar but for science fiction it's workable. Clearly one of my more favorite movies. The score by James Horner was composed quickly but effectively. This gives us one of the best action cues of all time.

Simple but satisfying
A simple story of an alien invasion fought within a city block. The movie is funny & action packed. The aliens are scary, but cool. The acting is fine too. I like the different characters. The one thing that's a little hard to get over, is the heroes of the film are a gang of muggers & thugs. We get the "We are all fighting against the same enemy" trope, but when you think about it, they're still criminals. I still enjoyed the movie very much & would watch it again.

Mar 9, 2018
PR consultant Sasha Solomon is putting together a campaign for the New Mexico city of Clovis, which means she gets to see her best friend Mae. Mae is acting weird, however, and with good reason. There's a dead body on her dairy farm. And, oh yeah, she's being kidnapped by aliens. After the first 20 pages, I was fully into this book. It's different but funny with great characters and some wonderful turns of phrase.

STFU

A short review. The jump scares were awesome if terrifying. The monsters or aliens or whatever they were sure sounded a lot like Jurassic Park raptors. John Krasinski looks hella sexy in his Ted Kaczynski beard. The little gal in here did an excellent job with her nonverbal communication. A quiet moody teen? I didn’t know there was such a thing. This movie is worth watching just to get to the last 30 seconds.

I'm not sure what needs to be said that hasn't already been said.
Toy Story is a classic, from start to finish. All these years later, it's still holds up as one of Pixar's finest, and the first film in one of the best trilogies of all time.
The animation, the voice cast, the music - it's hard to fault anything.
Every character, from Woody and Buzz, to Sid and the toy aliens, are well realised, and it quickly becomes clear just how much you care about a group of animated toys.
