Merissa (13952 KP) rated Spanish Siesta (Flying into Love #2) in Books
Aug 2, 2022 (Updated Aug 2, 2023)
When rugby players fall, they fall hard!
SPANISH SIESTA is the second book in the Flying Into Love series and, just as with the first book, there was a character I instantly connected with and one I didn't.
Kieran has had a long-term crush on his best mate, Matt, since forever. Matt, on the other hand, is a first-class alpha man-ho, never sticking around and sleeping his way through the female population of London. Although from the outside looking in, you might think Kieran had it tough; compared to Matt's dysfunctional family, Kieran had it incredibly easy as he at least had his mother's love.
You don't actually go too deep with any of the supporting characters, or indeed, with the main ones. Matt's sudden epiphany didn't seem that realistic, although his reaction to people finding out was the opposite.
The pacing was smooth and the writing style was easy. The story flowed, leading you to the conclusion. It was an enjoyable book with no surprises. If you like the friends-to-lovers/bi-awakening tropes, then this is one for you.

Merissa (13952 KP) rated Loving the Enemy (7 Forbidden Arts #0) in Books
May 20, 2023
Lily is on the streets of South Africa when we first meet her, not knowing the story behind how she ended up there. Jacob comes along as her saviour, but is he really, or just a wolf in sheep's clothing?
The chemistry is there between these two from the start, but Jacob does a good job of restraining himself. Jacob is most definitely an alpha male, and Lily, although she comes across as incredibly naive, almost ditzy in places, she is the perfect match for him.
This is one helluva fast-paced, action-filled, and steamy in places, book that will delight and enthral you from start to finish. There is an introduction to a group of people that will fill out the paranormal side of things, I'm sure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. However, the tiny blood-thirsty part of me was hoping for Lily to get her own back against her father and step-brother. I guess I will just have to wait and see if she shows up in further books.

Merissa (13952 KP) rated Nya's Wolf in Books
May 20, 2023
Nya is a forest ranger, and happy being by herself surrounded by nature. The book starts with her facing off a grumbly bear, but just as she thinks that this is going to hurt, she is saved by a wolf, although she does fall down a small ravine. Upon trying to get out, she finds a body and the story really starts.
This is exceedingly well-written, with a different take on the usual shifter story, in that Reece is an 'out-of-towner' who has also become the Alpha of the pack. It is a settling down process which needs time that he, unfortunately, doesn't have as he becomes the prime suspect in the murder case. Not only are Nya and Reece trying to find the killer, but they are also trying to sort out the power plays that come into force with a pack. Intermingling a couple of storylines is not easy, but Roxy Wilson has done it with aplomb.
This is the first book by Roxy Wilson that I have read, but it certainly won't be the last. Well-written and thoroughly enjoyable, definitely recommended.

Merissa (13952 KP) rated Alpha Shaman (Bad Oak Boys #2) in Books
May 20, 2023
Josh thinks that he is human, although he is aware of the werewolf gene in his family. However, when he starts having strange dreams and shedding fur, he admits he might be in trouble. He rings Ryan (his brother) who sends out a Shaman who will help him. When Josh and Gerwulf first meet, the wolves both agree that they have found their mates, although the human halves still need convincing. Evil is on the way though, so they may not have as much time as they would like.
This is the first of the Bad Oak Boys that I have read, although I didn't feel that it negatively impacted my enjoyment in any way. Alpha Shaman is full of action, romance, and yes, even grief. I could understand Gerwulf's hang-ups from his past and liked how he worked through them, with Josh's help. Josh and Gerwulf are both excellent characters, well-rounded and with their own quirks.
I have enjoyed this story, and am now looking forward to reading Rock Star Baby, which is book one in this series.

Merissa (13952 KP) rated White Roses : A Fairytale Retold in Books
Oct 16, 2025
WHITE ROSES is a fairytale retelling set in a fantasy omegaverse. Briar is the omega, cursed to sleep for 5,000 years. Landon is the alpha who wakes her. Briar finds the world has changed just a little in the time she's been asleep.
I really wanted to enjoy this book. I love omegaverse stories and fantasy, so combining the two sounded perfect. In reality, I can't say as I did. Let me explain...
I found both characters to be rather bland, apart from Landon's alphahole qualities, which were there in abundance. If this is how mates are treated in this world, I'd sooner stay in mine. Prepare yourself for whiplash as the two of them go back and forth between s3x and not talking. I found the writing style to be quite disjointed and chunky, making my reading experience jarring. The best character in here was Elias, an 800-year-old fae, but he's only a supporting character. While the curse, the witch, and the dragons were all easily sorted.
The thought of putting Sleeping Beauty in a fantasy omegaverse is a good one, but for this book to shine, I think a lot more work needs to go into character development.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Merissa (13952 KP) rated Knotted by Her Alphahole Enemy (Knotted by the Alphahole) in Books
Mar 30, 2026
KNOTTED BY HER ALPHAHOLE ENEMY is part of the Knotted by the Alphahole series. This novella is fast-paced, with a full story being told.
Hunter and his brothers watched their father fade after his omega died, and swore they would never allow themselves to be in that position. Hunter's brother, Grayson, was the first one to break that vow, and now it's Hunter's turn. You don't have to have read Grayson and Lila's story to appreciate this one. Jaleesa is opposing counsel on a big case that will make waves for the omega community, but when her biology changes things, will she stay or walk away?
This is the first novel by this author I have read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a novella, but it didn't feel as though anything had been missed out from their story. Both Jaleesa and Hunter are strong characters, lawyers determined to do what they think is right. The scenes between them as lawyers are sharp and steamy when they're alpha and omega, but you can still feel the push-and-pull in every moment.
This was a great read that I definitely recommend. I want to read about Grayson, Liam, and Rian now!
