Fern’s Wing ( Sisters of Hex: Fern book 2)
By Bea Paige
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fern's decision changed everything. Now she must live with the consequences not only affecting her but the people she loves, even the ones who find it hard to love her in return.
Trapped in the Shadowlands, Fern must put her trust in the Angels of Death and adapt to her new surroundings. When a disturbing message is delivered about her mother, Fern defies the trio and take matters into her own hands.
Fern's Wings is the second book of Fern's trilogy and continues the Sisters of Hex story. To get a full picture of the overarching storyline you might wish to read Accacia's trilogy first.
The Sisters of Hex series - five sisters, five clans, one curse and a whole host of paranormal creatures.
I really like the concept and world building in this series of books I like the characters and storyline. This one was more about Fern building her strength and relationships with her men and it was good but my mind did wander off sometimes. All the action came in the last 4 chapters where we catch up with old friends from the first set of sisters of hex. Overall though it was still a good book.

Merissa (12061 KP) rated Wings of the Wicked: A Limited Edition Urban Fantasy Collection in Books

This book is a paradox - it is both steamy and sexy, whilst also fading to black. The passion between Reese and Cass is full-on, and full of emotion. I was hoping for that ending, but I wasn't sure I would get it. R.S. McCoy managed to keep me on tenterhooks throughout.
This is an excellent story, being well written, and with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading. The pacing is smooth, and the characters well rounded. I would love to know if this is part of a series, as I would love for Vin and Alexander to have their stories too!
If you like reading about hot and sexy angels, or ripped musicians who know what they want, then I can definitely recommend this book.

Phil Leader (619 KP) rated The Gatekeeper (Afterlife #0.5) in Books

Aker might seem like a normal boy but there is something different about him. He is a little more cruel, a little more keen to cause trouble and misery than his peers. His downward path soon brings him to the attention of the demon world, a world he adapts to with ease. But demons survive either on their strength or their wits. Aker may not be strong but he is very cunning and very eager to prove himself.
One of the major achievements of this story is that the main protagonist is (hopefully) in no way relateable to the reader; he is sly, selfish and cruel, caring nothing at all for anybody but himself. Yet the writing means that although we might not agree with any of his choices, it is clear why he makes them. So although the reader has no sympathy for Aker, there is some understanding of him.
The story moves quickly as Aker progresses through the demon world and there is little to time to catch one's breath between scenes. This makes it an easy read, and one that manages to provide a lot of background on the wider series without ever deviating from telling the central story.
Christine A. (965 KP) rated Bitter Falls (Stillhouse Lake #4) in Books

Bitter Falls is the fourth book in Rachel Caine's Stillhouse Lake series. To give a fair review, I read the earlier books and I am so glad I did. I will publish reviews on those, but this one will concern only Bitter Falls.
Gwen Proctor, working as a P.I., is tasked with investigating a cold case missing person. As usual with Gwen, things with this case, are not as simple as they seem. The entire family is pulled into the case while trying to stay away from the Hillbilly Mafia who wants Gwen and her family gone. Of course, you can not forget about the internet trolls and the Lost Angels.
As with the other books in the series, this book was difficult to put down. The story is fast-paced and, after Wolfhunter, the family is not able to pretend to "be normal" for long. By making Gwen a P.I, Rachel Caine has ensured this series will be able to continue with new and different cases in each book. I know I look forward to the next adventure of Gwen, the kids, Sam, and their friends/supporters.
Heartbreak Bay, the 5th book in Stillhouse Lake series is available to pre-order.
