What a happy,breezy read! I flew through this book in less than a day absolutely flew through it. I found it happy,thought provoking and just one of those feel good books! One down side is I know the author was writing about experiences in her life (anxiety and panic attacks) and at times it felt like it was a book about her, like throughout the book I had her voice in my head as the main character. Which wasn't entirely a bad thing I just like to make up a persons face in my head rather than have it planted there. I am 25 years of age and I can't help but feel this book has been given such poor reviews because people either don't like her or the rumors they hear. I took this book for what it is, it's aimed at young teenagers so of course it shall be written like one as it is through the eyes of a young girl.
This book did fantastically at what it set out to do, and I won't judge it on something it didn't.
It was an intriguing plot line, I liked the main characters relationship especially between her and her best friend, I loved how close she was with her family and I loved the support she received when the events unfolded. As someone who suffers from anxiety I believe it was a very true telling of what can really happen and how someone can feel when dealing with such things. All in all I think this book is beautifully written for the age group it was intended for.

THE LAST SON OF VENUS is the first book in a new series. It is hot and dark, and leaves you wanting more!
We start off with a young anxiety-ridden Alex, on his first trip abroad and lost in London. Things start going a bit strange for him and he has no idea what's going on. What's worse is he can't get hold of his parents for their advice. Nikos has been Alex's Guardian for a while now but this is his first interaction with him directly. Add Alex and Nikos, together with Jin - a queer descendant of Hekate, against an evil sect disguising themselves as the church, and you have an action-packed story that will keep you turning the pages.
This is definitely character-led - you get the steadiness of Nikos, the quirkiness of Jin, plus the anxiety of Alex. These characters change as the story progresses. Obviously, the biggest change is Alex, but Jin changes too!
Told from varying perspectives, it allows you to see the inner workings of just what's going on. And, trust me, there's a lot. There are multiple players in this story and not all of them are black and white.
A brilliant start to a new series by a new-to-me author. I absolutely recommend this book, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Erica Ferencik does it again! In a much more subtle and nuanced way she gives us just as much anticipation, excitement and uncertainty as in her debut. This novel is much more complex in its research, dynamics and characters. While it may seem slow in some spots, you later realize that, much like the Amazon, it is just a brief, and later appreciated, respite from the almost constant anxiety and slow burn of trepidation and exaltation that the rest of the novel delivers. The end felt a bit rushed and, in my opinion, could have easily benefited from another fifty pages but, even so, it was a wonderful foray into a reality that most of us will never live and even fewer would survive. A definite must read!
If you're like me and feel rude not talking to the driver but also suffer crippling social anxiety, you can offer a tip to let them know that the silence was just what you wanted (3 more)

The story flows really well to the point where it never seems like a good place to stop
It takes on anxiety, social awkwardness and modern family structures without breaking stride
Well written, funny and welcoming. Couldn't put it down.
Nina Hill is anxious, a control freak, competitive, smart and completely socially awkward. And you'll love her.
The story takes you briefly through her life growing up and gradually offers explanation for each of the character traits as her present story evolves.
I love that there are a couple of threads to the story and not just the love interest part.
