It's fair to say that we've been spoiled by the cinematic gods this year. La La Land and Moonlight started 2017 with a bang, with The Disaster Artist and Call Me By Your Name bringing the year to a close. And we still have The Last Jedi to come!

But it's Jordan Peele's timely, unsettling satire Get Out that takes Empire's top spot this year.

Based on UK release dates, here are Empire's top ten films of the year:

So, may be biased, but I read "Just Kids" by Patti Smith. 5⭐, all the way.

I've always loved her music ....her presence. Now, I am in love with her writing!

The book delves into her beginnings as an artist, a singer, a songwriter... It shocked me how open and honest she was, and how she wasn't scared to be vulnerable.

Wonderful read!

Not an artist I was familiar with. To be honest, I though Boz Scaggs was a character from a Western. An interesting album, at times reminiscent of Joe Cocker and Neil Young, at other times like the Bugsy Malone soundtrack. Not my cup of tea and unlikely one I will listen to again. The yodelling was mercifully brief.

D'Angelo isn't an artist I was familiar with. I would have assumed this album would be hip-hop, and was a little surprised at the soulfulness of the songs. However despite the first few songs being quite enjoyable, thereafter it descends into poor Prince demo tracks.
