"This great film was made back when Olympic athletes were regular folk."

Level the Playing Field: The Past, Present, and Future of Women's Pro Sports by Kristina Rutherford is a book that will inspire young athletes. It is a great book that contains information for all young athletes, male and female. It is a book that encourages an equal playing field for males and females.

This is a great look at the known and little-known names in women’s sports. With one-page interviews, historical glimpses and impassioned text this book is a must have for women of any age who have athletic dreams or just want to read about inspirational players.

I received this book from Owlkids Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Some good thoughts on using your own hands to take care of your sore muscles. At times his suggestions are a bit out there, but the general principles are very good.

This book looks at how an emphasis on specialization can actually hamper our ability to really excel at something. It aligns with what I try to do when I am coaching, in my stories, and what we’re doing with Mamba Sports Academy — create all-around athletes who can think critically and make assessments in real time to enhance their play rather than rely only on a narrow set of skills.

I want to be an Amazon
The opening of this film was spectacular. the use of athletes as amazon was genious and worked better than anything CGI could produce. I truley was excited by this film and then they left the Island.

Unfortunely I found the middle to be far to long didnt feel a great connection between Diana and Steve on boat or in London. Honestly if those scence where a lot shorter I would of given this film a 10/10. however they kept the length and for me it ruined the film. The last half hour was great and the opening was stunning.

It is basically social media for athletes, you follow different people and then see when they upload a run, cycle ride or swim. You can award kudos or comment on their activity.

I believe you can track activity straight from strava however I have mine set up to sync with Fitbit [running] and garmin [cycling] just as I already had both of these devices and don’t always take my phone out with me. Once you have set up the connection with another app you don’t have to do anything it will automatically upload any activity to strava for you to view.

I enjoy using strava for the different insights it gives you, you can pay to have premium membership which gives you even more info, however I don’t bother.

"Amy Richards has created the book I searched for growing up, diverse role models all together. It’s called We Are MAKERS: Real Women and Girls Shaping Our World. Based on the PBS series and the online platform MAKERS, this book would have inspired me with ideas of who I might grow up to share the world with, yet it also would have included me as the girl I was. It includes biographies and quotes from a wide variety of women, from Misty Copeland, who broke the color line as a ballerina, to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who broke the sex barrier on the Supreme Court. There are also athletes and tech experts, writers and builders of skyscrapers, plus some encouraging dads. This is a book to help any girl realize her dreams."

Beautiful Story
A dentist working the winter olympics falls in love with one of the athletes.

Acting: 10

Beginning: 2

Characters: 10

Cinematography/Visuals: 10

Conflict: 9

Entertainment Value: 8

Memorability: 6

Pace: 10
At just 82 minutes, the movie feels even shorter. It flows smoothly from scene to scene without ever feeling rushed. Director Jeremy Teicher does a phenomenal job of time-management and making you feel a connection in such a short amount of time.

Plot: 10
A part of what makes the story pop so well is how different they made the two main characters. They drive and move the story so smoothly because of their constant conflict. The concept is also very original as well.

Resolution: 8

Overall: 81
If you’re looking for a cute love story that’s not over-the-top sappy, Olympic Dreams is definitely the way to go. I didn’t enter the movie with very high expectations but I ended up absolutely loving it. Nick Kroll and Alexi Pappas are magic together.

Molly's Game (2017)
2017 | Drama
Based on the memoir Molly's Game: From Hollywood's Elite to Wall Street's Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker by Molly Bloom. The film follows Bloom, who becomes the target of an FBI investigation of her underground poker empire for Hollywood celebrities, athletes, business tycoons, and the Russian mob.

I guess I can take this off the list of films to see next year now thanks to this Secret Screening. It wasn't the film I thought they were going to put on, and a much later night than planned thanks to Cineworld listing it as an hour and a half long.

I enjoyed it, and it was a good watch, but I'd find it very difficult to rave about this one. Mainly it caught my interest because I love poker. The story flows well when it switches between the present and the past, and the narration worked well for me too. I'm not sure I'd have felt like I got my monies worth on a full priced ticket, but still an interesting film.
