I really felt for his father: it can't be easy parenting a child with Jaspers complex needs. However, I feel he comes across as being a very capable, loving man. He struggles to understand his son sometimes, but I think he appears to work very hard to help Jasper. And honestly, it must be hard to be Jasper as well.
As someone who works in education, I found it difficult to see how Jasper has slipped through the net of support for his conditions - but it does say in the novel that they have moved around a lot. So this might be the reason (and I'll allow for poetic licence!).
The descriptive language in this novel surrounding Jaspers synaesthesia really is beautiful, and well worth a read purely for that. Then you can stay for the murder mystery event!

I absolutely loved Kallos' "Broken For You," so I was extremely excited to pick up her latest novel. It definitely took some time for this one to grow on me. The book got off to a slow start and Charles is not the most likable of characters. Still, once I got into the plot, it's a lovely tale and extremely moving. Kallos does an amazing job of tying together her ancillary characters into a beautiful way--not one that's trite, per se, but a manner that seems fitting for each.
Overall, the book is a touching tribute to language, in many forms, and to art, as well. It's also a very insightful look at autism and the toll it can take on a family, but also some of the gifts that those termed as "disabled" by the general public can give to us. Definitely worth reading - just be patient.

The way this book happens to stay done, I enjoyed it. It explained it to me in a way I could understand. I see I may or not have some of the symptoms even though I was not diagnosed with this, and I could have some of the symptoms or overlap with others. I get frustrated with a loud noise, and I have high-functioning autism. I could see some overlap between the symptoms and the other mental illnesses out there. So be sure to get some help and professional help.
This book will help children to understand and learn to communicate with someone who has SPD. It is also a good resource for parents and teachers in their classrooms. The pictures remain done well. They are crisp and enjoyable to look at in the book. This book will help those who have sensory processing disorder and need help putting words to their feelings and helping them communicate with their parents and others.
