The Rathbone Folio Prize was awarded to Hisham Matar for his astounding autobiography The Return.

It centres on Matar's return to his native Libya in 2012 to search for the truth behind the 1990 disappearance of his father, a prominent political dissident of the Gaddafi regime.

A prize open to all works of fiction written in English and published in the UK. All genres and forms of literature are eligible, except work written primarily for children.

"Levi is best known for his unflinching Holocaust memoirs, but this is a sunnier work, the autobiography of a chemist, narrated in a humane and sometimes light-hearted voice. There’s a deep love for the physical world in these pages, and an infectious sense of wonder."

"A loose autobiography written almost in stream of consciousness with expertly rendered romance. This book is melancholy moodiness at its finest. It does not seem to rely too much on veracity. I yearn for this version of America and aspire to be this type of New Yorker."

The Chicago rapper’s first milestone is a careful step in his legacy-building business. It's an obvious turn inward, but Vic also digs his heels into his political ground.

An autobiography of the Broadway turned TV and movie star. I think her fans (and I am one of them) will really enjoy it. Others probably not so much.

"As someone who’s attempted comedy for a while, it’s always riveting to read about the life of someone who actually got it right. Written in 1964, My Autobiography, by the master himself, it is revealing and enlightening and empowering. Kind of what a memoir is supposed to be, but so very seldom is."

"Nobody could have had a kinder and wiser headmaster than I. At the age of 92 he decided to write his fascinating autobiography. He was a young officer in the British army advancing into Germany at the end of the war. He boldly concludes that the Germans lack a sense of international fairness."

"Hart rose from grinding poverty in Brooklyn to the heights of Broadway success in writing and directing. Act One is easily the best show — business autobiography — a riveting story that risks promoting the foolish idea that if you chase your dream and never give in, you will succeed. Bull. A few will. Hart did."
