An autumn question for Wednesday, because the season has me thinking about places.

If you could spend a day anywhere in Wales — real or fictional, from the books or from the landscape itself — where would you go, and what would you do there? A castle ruin with a view and a flask of tea, a sacred lake in the Bannau Brycheiniog, a bookshop in Monmouth, or a hilltop at dusk listening for things you can't quite explain. The options are genuinely good, and I want to know where this community would land.

And what would you suggest for me? 🍂🏰

It's #FolkloreFriday 🌊

This week’s focus explores the traditional Welsh folklore of the river washer (Y Golchwraig). In the old stories, remote waterways were treated as highly active liminal boundaries; it was believed that certain spirits were bound permanently to the streams to act as keepers of ancestral memory.

Welsh folk beliefs approached these water spirits with an immense, quiet seriousness; passing a mountain brook after dark required a deliberate step and a respectful silence. The old ways reminded us that nature does not easily forget the lives that have touched it; the rivers we cross every day are carrying more than just the autumn rain. ⛰️

A Real Piece of Art
Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds is an enduring classic, with stunning storytelling lyrics & drama building music aplenty. From the first bars I was hooked from first listen.
This takes the story to a new level, with a narration from the velvety voice of Richard Burton - it transports you from the fear of the unknown, to the depths of terror and finishes with hope and the sheer resilience of the human spirit. Great as a whole and some real stand out pieces, Forever Autumn being a hit in it’s own right & The Eve of the War being the ring tone choice of many (including me). Just unmissable.
