Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Voices Under Berlin: The Tale Of A Monterey Mary in Books

I really loved the idea of this book, it sounded great and it won five book awards. But after the first few chapters, I felt like I still didn't know what was going on and I didn't know who the characters were. I love spy books! They are my absolute favorite… but I didn't feel compelled to read this one. And I have come to realize that if I have to force myself to read something, why read it?
The writing was pretty good, and it had some funny lines, but it wasn't enough to keep me reading. I also really liked the phone calls, but still it wasn't enough for me.
I really wish I had liked this one more. However, check out Goodreads and Amazon for more reviews (30+ 4- and 5-star reviews), you will see that I am in the minority.

Lewis John Hatchett (23 KP) rated Tolkien (2019) in Movies

Visually stunning for a film set in the late 1800s through WW1 and a soundtrack fitting for the film. Cast was chosen well and stand out performance from Nicholas Hoult in the titular role.
For a film that looked to be just about Tolkienand how he wrote The Lord of The Rings & The Hobbit series, it's so much more. If this doesn't at least receive some nominations for awards I would be shocked. If you have not seen it go see it before it's too late.

Sixteen bright board book pages reveal the life cycle of a sunflower, and the excitement of growing a plant from seed. It also has some fun gardening and small critter facts and has fun flaps that open up to reveal hiding creatures!
Winner of the silver award at the Junior Design Awards 2018 – Best Pre-Schooler Book 2-5 Years – this is certainly a book to recommend to parents for children of this age, because not only is it educational, it enables hands-on experience and fun quality time together. It’s a pretty book to gift, that’s also practical and intriguing.

Kevin Wilson (179 KP) rated The Revenant (2015) in Movies

CGI was barely used but when it was it looked fantastic. I'm talking specifically about the bear.
However, it went on for way too long. However shortening a lot of the scenes may have taken away some of the emotion which wouldn't be good. So it had to be long which isn't good considering it was very slow at times.
The story itself felt very generic. Typical storyline about revenge with an ending that could have been a bit better.

Andy K (10823 KP) rated Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) in Movies

The bus scene is hilarious and the script is hokey at times, but if you don't take it too seriously I think it's just fine.
Others had mentioned the CGI being sub par, but it didn't bother me as annoying or stand out as being bad.
Unfortunately, the film did not do well at the US box office, so probably done for good unless rebooted by Disney now that thy own everything.
Maybe Deadpool or the X-Men will show up with Aliens and Planet of the Apes and there will be an all out world challenge! (Doubtful I suppose...)
