David McK (3233 KP) rated The Hound of the Baskervilles in Books
Jun 16, 2019
Perhaps the most famous of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes mysteries, in which the super-sleuth investigates the supposed Baskerville family curse of the hell-hound on the moors.
What else can I say? Originally serialised by Arthur Conan Doyle, there's been many attempts to adopt this for TV, film or stage over the years, right through from the classic Basil Rathbone 1939 classic (and which many - myself included - still envisage Holmes as) to the more modern BBC Benedict Cumberbatch TV series, one of which has an episode largely based on this story.
Mysterious deaths, ghostly hell-hounds, escaped convicts and the marshy moors all play a part in this ...

B (62 KP) rated The 10th Kingdom - Season 1 in TV
Nov 2, 2018
First of all, being a fan of BBC period dramas, I absolutely love the genre of the TV mini-series. And The 10th Kingdom is one of my all-time favorite. I remember watching it our recorded copy on video cassette (hard to believe its that old ?) as a child and I'm pretty sure that it was the source of my fascination with fairy tales. The special effects are actually surprisingly good. It's a pity that it took them so long to make this first series because it would have been interesting to learn about some of the other kingdoms in the second "book." Overall, such an amazing cult classic ?

CHILLFILTR (46 KP) rated Happiness by Callum Pitt in Music
Jul 11, 2019
Callum Pitt comes to us from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, where he sits by the river and strums his guitar, whispering sweet nothings into the belly of the wind. His new single is a must-listen called simply Happiness.
It's a Disney-style romp through meadows of arpeggiated bells and jangly guitars, with a deep gentle swing and a little cowboy piano for good measure. Lately the BBC has taken an interest in Callum and we think his star is on the rise. He is building on the fanbase he connected with in 2016 with a spot at Evolution Emerging Festival.
You can also hear his song Happiness on Volume 2 of the CHILL NEW Songwriters series.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Teetotaled (Discreet Retrieval Agency, #2) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
I love historical fiction set in the 1920s, so I was really excited to get an early copy of Teetotaled to check out. It did not disappoint! The heroine, Lola, has a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor which I adored, and this book kept me chuckling all the way through.
The mystery in Teetotaled was just as entertaining. It kept me guessing, and the cast of suspects and supporting characters made me feel like I was watching a BBC production of Jeeves and Wooster.
Cozy mystery fans as well as historical fiction aficionados who dont mind a dose of humor are sure to enjoy this book!
Note: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

PhoebeLV (147 KP) rated Noughts and Crosses: Book 1 in Books
Aug 8, 2020
The Story (1 more)
The Characters
Favourite Book Series
Noughts and Crosses is a modern take on Romeo and Juliet; two people want to be together, however, it is seen as wrong as one of them is black (Cross) and the other person is white (Nought). Noughts and Crosses explores a range of serious happenings, including terrorism and racism.
Malorie Blackman writes very well; she has to be one of my favourite authors. I showed a whole range of emotions whilst reading this series.
This book has also been made into a BBC show. It is not exactly the same (which is good), but it is pretty much the same.
Overall, I would recommend this book, if this is the sort of thing you are interested in.

Macra
Watched last night it's not bad not one of the best doctor who's from the sixties due to the budget but we will get to that but first the story. For years this and many other who's had been missing from the BBC archive due to alot of episodes being junked destroyed especially the macra terror where it's been totally destroyed till now. Now a new audience can watch it for the first as an animated feature and it looks good the acting from Patrick troughton is getting into his stride finally after five adventures with support from his companions. Now to the macra they look so much more now scary than they did originally due to budget hope some day they will animate more lost who's we can dream

Dianne Robbins (1738 KP) rated Below Stairs: The Bestselling Memoirs of a 1920s Kitchen Maid in Books
Sep 3, 2018
Margaret Powell's memoir Below Stairs is growing up in a poor in money but rich in love with her family in a small village near London, England and her life in domestic service in the 1920s. It is simply wonderful. Her other memoirs Climbing the Stairs and Servants Hall and her Cookery Book are next on my list. It's more like listening to your favorite aunt sitting at the kitchen with you over fresh-baked cookies and glasses of homemade lemonade while retelling stories of her childhood and life in the early part of the 20th century. You HAVE to read it!. Julian Fellowes read her books and they were the inspiration behind the extremely popular BBC series Downton Abbey, that is watched by us in the states on PBS Masterpiece.

Yeti
Watched today before today I had only seen episode 2 of this story due to the fact that in the 70s this story was erased by the BBC except episode 2 which wasn't erased but 50 years later liktrying e other lost who's the story's been animated and it looks brilliant from the acting the monsters the yeti looking abit cute thsn scary but that changes with the next story as with most 2 doctor story's this a base under siege story which means group of characters in danger from outside force trying to get in. As the story is set in Tibet but the budget wouldn't so they filmed it snowdonia Wales instead which is good enough overall good story shame its the last animated lost story
