Watch Out for the Extra Body
Just in time for Halloween, we get this fun collection of murders set in and around graveyards. In addition to the unexpected dead body or two, we also get involved in revenge, teenage parties, amnesia, family feuds, and an escaped convict. Many of these stories are set around Halloween, although a few take place at other times of the year. And yes, a couple lean into the spooky, but it always fits the story, so I didn’t mind.
Many of these authors featured their series stars. I’ve read many of those novels, so it was fun to spend time with them. For those who I haven’t met outside of these short story collections, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything with the stories we got here. Each story was fun, taking me about half an hour to read. With nine stories, we get plenty of content. I was smiling through most of them, even laughing some. And the stories kept me engaged from start to finish.
Whether you read this book now or open it in a different season of the year, you’ll enjoy these stories.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Dyed in the Wool in Books

Another thrilling page-turner from James. A definite step up in form from the previous instalment, Fire in the Blood. Cullen is this time part of the team investigating the apparent suicide of a young man in West Lothian. As usual, the case expands from there with the body count increasing and the twists and turns, lies and confessions are in abundance.
Other than one or two slightly clunky plot devices (working out someone's identity from their chat board user name) this was a compelling, well-written crime novel.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2464 KP) rated Dark Pursuit in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Darrell Brooks, the best selling "King of Suspense," is struggling to write his 100th book after an accident stole his ability to concentrate. But he's going to need all his mental powers when his estranged granddaughter finds a body in her apartment and suspects her boyfriend, a cop, put it there. I loved this Christian thriller. The characters were good, but the character development at the end was a little abrupt.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2464 KP) rated The Penguin Who Knew Too Much (Meg Langslow, #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Meg and Michael are finally ready to move into their new house. Unfortunately, Meg's dad finds a dead body while digging a pool for the penguins. Wait a minute. Penguins? Yep, it's another mad cap romp with Meg and her family. I found the book very funny and laughed the entire way through. Unfortunately, the ending was a tad weak for my tastes. But that was the only flaw in the book.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2464 KP) rated Murder With Peacocks (Meg Langslow, #1) in Books

Meg's summer as maid of honor in three weddings for three different demanding brides is complicated enough before a dead body shows up. And there's the attractive man in town for the summer as well.... This is a fun, enjoyable series debut with plenty of humor. However, the mystery gets side tracked by all the antics of the characters at time. Still, this does start a series I love to this day.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2464 KP) rated Caught in a Bind in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Merry Kramer's co-worker is having a rough week. First, her husband vanishes. Then he's accused of stealing money from his work. Finally, a dead body shows up in her garage. Can Merry figure out what is going on? I love these characters, and the book drew me in even on a reread. However, I found the sub-plot about spousal abuse often became preachy and slowed down the book.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2464 KP) rated The Clovis Incident (A Sasha Solomon Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
PR consultant Sasha Solomon is putting together a campaign for the New Mexico city of Clovis, which means she gets to see her best friend Mae. Mae is acting weird, however, and with good reason. There's a dead body on her dairy farm. And, oh yeah, she's being kidnapped by aliens. After the first 20 pages, I was fully into this book. It's different but funny with great characters and some wonderful turns of phrase.

MissCagey (2652 KP) rated Game Night (2018) in Movies
Mar 28, 2018
My husband and I watched this at the cinema this afternoon. My husband was amused by it but I thought it was very funny and laughed out loud at parts. The humour was right up my street, no toilet humour, farting, body parts or childish sex jokes here, it was created within the couple's interactions and their personalities. The creepy neighbour didn't even have to speak to make me laugh at him and his awkwardness. It was slightly farcical in places but all in all a well written and worthwhile to watch film.
