Well obviously The Rock, I love the relationship between him and the ape. I like that they threw in a little fun with such a serious attitude of the movie for the most part. (0 more)
It was nothing like I hoped it would be, it was so hyped up but it left me kind of meh at the end. It was good but just not my favorite, not sure I would recommend it unless they are die hard Rock fan (0 more)
I had a love/hate relationship with this

They could have worked a few things out differently, they definitely overplayed the bad guys in places they should have been more focused on what was actually happening around them with the whole city falling apart and giant creatures attacking everywhere. The action scenes between the animals and The rock was just too much. There should have definitely more action with the animals themselves with all the crazy changes they had gone through it would have been epic

I was a huge fan of the original and Jean-claude Van Damme, the original is an classic martial arts film. The reboot will never be as good as the original but I can say its not bad. Its awesome to see that Van Damme was able to return as the mentor and pass the torch on, his performance was the best out of the whole cast. Bautista playing the villain Tong Po was fierced and brilliant. The fight scenes were crafted exceptional and some were intense and exciting. The story in my opinion was a tad bit jumpy and drug out compared to the original but I did like how they twisted it and tried to make it more original. This movie might not be the best ever reboot, low budget but it was entertaining and Van Damme was brilliant. Hopefully the sequel will be even better.

Thor just turned cool
I know people are going to read this and tell me I'm crazy for actually saying this: BEST MARVEL FILM EVER. From the very first Thor movie to the last avengers film, I thought that Thor never made it anywhere near the top 3 spot for best Marvel superhero. Then along came Ragnarok and I've gotta say, Thor kicked arse. We can't blame Thor for being the uncool avenger, I think we have to blame the writers for the pretty bad Thor titles before this. Ragnarok is filled with tons of action and comedy. The story is centred on a prophecy which once it has begun, Asguard, home of Odin, Thor and fellow Asguardians, will fall and be reduced to ashes. Thor once again takes up arms against a threat again a little too close for comfort. This one is definitely the one to beat.

Not-bad Hammer dinosaur movie probably best-known for its special effects (by which I mean Ray Harryhausen's animation and Raquel Welch's costume). Bit-thick hero is kicked out of his own tribe, crosses a desert mostly populated by photo-blow-up monsters, meets another tribe who are so advanced they have discovered peroxide hair-dye and leg-waxing. Meanwhile Raquel Welch watches her dreams of being taken seriously as an actress go up in smoke.

Takes itself impressively seriously, all things considered; the decision to do the whole thing in made-up caveman language (sample dialogue: 'Tumak! Akita Loana!') makes it difficult to even have a coherent plot, let alone subtext, but I doubt that was the first concern. Harryhausen's dinosaurs are obviously rather wonderful; the decision to include photographically-enlarged lizards at certain points is questionable. It is what it is; the poster's claim that 'This is the way it was!' should probably not be taken too seriously.

Well I finally got round to watching this on Amazon Prime last night and really enjoyed it.

What starts as a very funny film, turns into something more dark and deep to which I was not expecting.

Overall I thought it was great and the only thing I had an issue with was that Oscar (played by the great Jason Sudeikis) changed his character literally overnight with no explanation. We can only presume it was known that Gloria did the deed with Joel or that we are to later find out that Oscar is actually a bad person (stemming back to a childhood incident involving his inferior diorama compared to that of Gloria’s and he still holds a grudge) but either way, it was all very sudden with no build up and made this part of the movie seem a little rushed.

Either way, would love to hear other people’s views on this!

100 minutes of non-stop action, it's beautiful in the way the violence is done. Amazing.

Wow, just wow
Lots of movies get described as "an adrenaline rush, from start to finish" and rarely do they deliver. The Raid does exactly that. The best fight choreography, its more of a violent dance than fighting...stunning in its visceral display. The story is simple, yet goes deeper than just "get the bad guy". It's survival behind enemy lines, at all cost...but manages to preserve the hero's humanity as well. There are mine.t's of little action, but they are filled with nail-biting tension...and with the rate of the body count, there isn't a guarantee even the hero makes it out alive.

Sidenote: while a different movie altogether, yet with the same feel, if you like The Raid then give Dredd (with Karl Urban) a watch. Also a great film, and highly underrated.

I think I liked this film, I'll definitely have to see it at least once more to form a full opinion. But, for now:
The plot was engaging, but fairly predictable. It did a good job of checking off the boxes, how Han met Chewie, the Kessel Run, and winning the ship from Lando.
I don't think I can currently comment on Alden's Han, I'll definitely need to see it again. I don't think he was bad, but he needed to make the character his own. I'm not sure he really had a choice in that though.
I do take a slight issue with Donald Glover's Lando. I'm not particularly a Lando fan, I don't feel one way or another about him. Lando was schmaltzy, corny, and I don't need a stand alone Lando movie.
I think Ron Howard did a good job with fixing the film. And I liked that he threw his bro in as a cameo.
Also, the appearance of ... that character... great.

I want to see on Thursday or Friday as I am on vacation!

Disclaimer: I received a free copy in exchange for an honest (not necessarily positive) review.

When I read the blurb for this book, I was highly intrigued, so I was excited to be able to read it for review. The story is very interesting, with an exciting premise, and it's definitely pulled me in to where I want to read the second part.

The only drawback (for me personally, not necessarily a bad thing for everyone) was the writing style itself. It comes across as more of a description of something, as if someone were dictating a movie or TV show to someone who hadn't seen it (an episode synopsis, if you will). It doesn't have a very narrative flow, which seemed rather odd to me at times, but it's still a very good story, so I was pulled into it regardless. As I said, I'm looking forward to the next part, so it didn't hinder my enjoyment too much. =)

A zombie movie with a heart?
After reading some great reviews for this film (some on Smashbomb) I thought I would give this modern Korean zombie film a try.

Boy was I glad I did.

Nothing too complicated with the plot here. Just a straight escape the zombie hoard before they bite you and make you part of the global onslaught type thing.

The characters are not well explained for the most part, but you care about them anyways when bad things start to happen. Blood and guts are amped down in favor of tension instead which I liked. The chase scenes were great and keep me watching and on the edge of my seat.

For those who don't like foreign films no worries here. The action and story keep you going almost immediately and you forget you are watching and reading at the same time.

Highly recommended. (Find on Netflix currently).

Best cameo ever!
So glad Ryan Reynolds finally found a character he could really live in. Had always thought he was a cool, funny actor but had never really connected with a role before this one.

More of the same from the last film here, so if you liked that you will like this.

This time he teams up with Cable and his self created band of amateur heroes the "X-Force" to fight more bad guys and try and save a young mutant from killing someone and going to far.

Great soundtrack, random movie references which is one of the things I love most, but thought it dragged in some parts where it was sort of dull and not much happening. Some of the jokes fell flat and the characters talked too fast so you couldn't understand them.

Great action and car chase scenes make this a very entertaining film to experience.
