Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

Expectations for this sixth Terminator movie were so low that even with a breathe-on-it-and-it-collapses plot, this is an startlingly effective sequel. A young girl finds herself the target of an assassination machine from the future, but a cyborg soldier has also been sent back to protect her. But this is not the first time round the time loop, and survivors from a previous version of this story find themselves drawn into the conflict...

So, yes, the plot only just manages to hold together, and the film is saddled with a leadenly reductionist message to put across - but it smartly identifies the one reproducible element of Terminator 2 that was really distinctive (Sarah Connor's transformation into an unhinged bad-ass) and plays that for all it's worth, accompanying it with some cracking action and fight sequences. Arnie doesn't show up until quite late on, but is so effective when he does it really unbalances the film (he plays the comedy inherent in his role as a Terminator who's been living undercover in suburbia for decades with great aplomb). Still not exactly brilliant, but streets ahead of the ones with Christian Bale and Jason Clarke.

The New Training Day
Chadwick Boseman has so much on screen charisma in this movie he could quite soon be one of the biggest names in Hollywood, his performance was utterly compelling. When an actor doesn't even have to speak and you know what they are thinking off by their eyes then that is special. In fact the entire cast is very strong with spot on performances from all of them,

This is a very strong film, if you liked Training Day here is another film with cops and bad guys (or are they one and the same?). Boseman is a detective who lives for the badge out to stop two robbers who have left a bloodbath of cops behind them. Can Boseman solve the mystery and stop the robbers or will he simply get revenge?

The only loss of points for me was I guessed the 'twist' from the beginning, otherwise it could have been even more of a great must watch film

Should've called ahead...
393. Villains. I think we got the wrong house! The stars of 'It' and 'It Follows' team up to play a couple of fun lovin criminals, Mickey and Jules, trying to make their way to Florida, to sell seashells by the seashore, that's not a joke. After robbing a gas station, they, uh, run out of gas and decide to break into the only house around, and that was a bad choice. The house looks normal enough, grab a scooby snack from the closet, maybe outdated a bit, in the middle of exploring the owners of the house come on in. And their reaction to the unwanted guests isn't exactly what you'd expect. Do George and Gloria, homeowners, have something to hide, like the fact that they're psychopaths? Hmm maybe. Bill Skarsgard was great as Mickey, the charming slightly stupid guy. Jeffrey Donovon, of Burn Notice fame, Stanley knows what I'm talking about, and Kyra Sedgwick are freaking great as the seemingly normal yet psychotic next door neighbors! I wasn't too satisfied with the ending, however it definitely is a fun movie to watch! Filmbufftim on FB.

This film was so profoundly bad, I am so surprised I managed to sit through the whole thing. I watched its counterpart (?) or maybe it's a reboot, who knows, "What Men Want" last year with Taraji P. Hensen and it made me eager to watch the original that it was based on.

The best thing about this film was the cast and it wasn't even the main characters I was impressed with - Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. The ones that surprised me and I was happy to see were Ashley Johnson, Marisa Tomei, Judy Greer, Sarah Paulson, Lisa Edelstein, Brooke Elliot made an appearance, really just great women popped up in this film from left to right and I was really impressed. I've followed their careers down their various paths and it's always cool to see them trackback to films together.

Overall, I think the plot of this movie is interesting, I just think that it was done badly and the ending was literally the worst. Am I glad I watched it? I don't know. I don't think I'll ever watch it again either. Maybe it was a waste of time. Hmm.

As Good as It Gets (1997)

I have no idea what I just watched. Seriously, I feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life on a run around film that made literally no sense. Not only was Melvin just a horrible person, but he was also racist, and homophobic, and sexist, and THAT'S the ending they went with? I'm so confused.

You ever just watch those films and you get an eerie feeling because you know it didn't age well? This is one of those. I can't imagine it did that good when it came out, but now? Now it's just painful and bad. I'm so confused as to how this film has an 8. Someone, please explain where they saw an 8 in this movie. Did we watch the same one? God help me.

Also, Jack Nicholson looks like he could be Helen Hunt's dad. I have some questions for the casting director, the writers, the director, honestly the whole staff. Did they think this film was going to be good when they made it? The dog was the best part of the film. I feel like that's saying something.

For me, it's non stop action. Nice little story line. (0 more)
Knowing this really could never happen, as our secret service is to strong. (Note, I don't want this to ever happen). (0 more)
Harrison Ford Saves the day?
The storyline is okay, all though we know this could never happen, well at least now, the thought of if it did, would it really go down like this? I don't think so, but when you add Harrison Ford to the mix, it's so worth it. Yes, Harrison is younger then than now, so his skills are in his high prime, which makes it even better.

With an all star cast, Glenn Close as the vice president, Gary Oldman as the bad guy and of course the great Dean Stockwell as the Defense Secretary need I say anything more? Well, yes.

I loved the cinematography for this film, being an film from the late 90s (1997) it really showcased the right time to use CGI. Not saying that some of it wasn't cheesy, yes, but for the most part it's a non stop action movie.

What can I say, Harrison Ford saves the day.

I remember the first time I saw this film - it was at a drive-in movie with my family and that was a whole experience. I thought it was bad then, but less so than I do now because the screen was so huge and you were pulled into it in a way that you're just not at home.

When I watched it a second time, my poor soul, I was slapped in the face with how atrocious I always knew it was. I am a firm believer that most every Dwayne Johnson film is the same. He's always the hero, the rescuer, the buff, tough, don't mess with me type of guy. I don't think I've seen a film with him in it where he's not that person and if you find one, let me know!

Overall, I think this film just shows the lack of diversity in his characters, but also that writing and having a thought out plot are just as important as cast and effects. This film did not lack in effects, but it definitely lacked in pretty much every other department.

Always check for cameras in the hotel room
At First I thought I was watching 13 cameras as it has the same feeling. At first you are pissed off at the main character Bart Bromley (Tye Sheridan) but by the end you are drawn to him, well at least I was.

John Leguizamo plays a tough going Detective and Helen Hunt plays the mom to this autistic main character. Both John and Helen nail the roles, as you would expect from the veteran actor and actress but as for the rest, maybe the next film they will nail down.

I feel the storyline could have been worked on. During some parts, I felt lost and wandering, it seemed to need more filler storyline.

Overall it's not that bad, but if you are tired you may want to hold off till you are wide awake as you may node off some.

The movie isn't scary, but it does make you wonder if you should check the hotel room for camera's the next time you stay at one.
