Bad acting (2 more)
Horrible costumes
Terrible CGI
Horrible movie but entertaining with friends
This was a horrible movie but entertaining since I watched it with friends.
Released 6 years after ET, which is comparable. Yet the CGI was worse and the costumes were horrible. I don't understand the plot exactly and the ending was just weird and bad.
The characters were not likeable, the acting was terrible. So much product placement from McDonald's and coca cola. We laughed at the aliens but they were just annoying.
Not sure if this was self aware about how bad it is but that's what it is. Bad. Don't even ask about that ending. I am as confused as anyone.
***Spoiler alert*** chased by government which soon goes away and suddenly the aliens are granted us citizenship with noone questioning anything. Oh and the daddy alien is wearing a suit.....yeah this movie was weird ***end spoiler***
I would still say give it a watch but watch it with friends so you can laugh at it. This is like the lower budget ET except no emotion osr redeeming qualities. The characters reactions to the aliens were too calm and rational and I have no idea of the point of the government chasing them. Didn't build to anything.
The lesson I came away with was that coca cola seems to solve everything.

Phillip McSween (751 KP) rated Haunt (2019) in Movies

Not Thought-Provoking But Fun!
In Haunt, a group of friends experience terror like no other when they go to a haunted house expecting a scare. For a movie that wasn’t done by a major studio, I have to say it ain’t half bad.
Acting: 10
Beginning: 3
If it wasn’t for such a slow start, I would definitely have put Haunt on the great level. Things don’t get moving nearly as fast as you like making me wonder if the rest of the movie was going to be like this. Fortunately things do pick up and, once things get rolling, the movie is good to go.
Characters: 7
The antagonists in this movie are super creepy, creepy enough to keep you entertained the whole movie. Meanwhile, the friends that are stalked can be pretty cardboard and plain, although I did appreciate how character development was worked in with a select few. It ultimately kept the story interesting.
Cinematography/Visuals: 8
Conflict: 10
The creepiness level is on 1,000 here as there is danger around every turn. The movie definitely keeps you guessing, building on intensity scene after scene like a true-to-form horror movie. I loved that I was scared when I didn’t need to be. I also appreciated that, once the movie kicks into gear, no shot is wasted from that point on. Conflict abounds consistently throughout.
Entertainment Value: 7
Memorability: 8
The movie succeeds by providing a lot of different setpieces that remain etched in your memory. The kills aren’t half bad either. Sure, it’s not the most thought-provoking film, but not bad as slashers go.
Pace: 10
Plot: 5
Resolution: 10
This movie ramps up the intensity right up to its thrilling conclusion where probably one of the most awesome kills in the film happens. I always gripe about the payoff in scary movies and how they can sometimes end abruptly so as to preserve a sequel. Haunt avoids that pitfall and goes all in with its ending that’s both engaging and fun.
Overall: 78
I would say this isn’t a bad movie to watch if it’s October and you’re tired of the same old Krueger and Jason song and dance. Had the characters been a twinge more interesting and the beginning hit with a little more boom, I would be leaning more towards the side of great horror to watch anytime. I love when independent horror and sci-fi hit the mark.

Florence Pugh (1 more)
Good one liners
Not much backstory as I anticipated (1 more)
Confused me a little bit with the timeline at first
Not my favourite marvel movie at all. It wasn’t a bad movie, but I expected much more of a backstory rather than it just being mentioned and seen through a few flashbacks.
The majority of the other avengers have all had their own standalone movie and that has included more of a backstory than this, so I was quite disappointed.
I did love Florence Pugh and felt like she sort of stole the show for a lot of the movie, she had a lot more of the comedic lines and didn’t take herself too seriously which is the thing I love about more recent marvel films (with the exception of infinity war and endgame which weren’t as funny for obvious reasons).
Not a bad attempt, just a little bit of a disappointment after all the hype. I’m just glad I didn’t go to see it in the cinema.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Godzilla Vs King Ghidorah (1991) in Movies
Mar 7, 2018
Eighteenth Godzilla movie (fifth Ghidorah movie, if anyone cares) goes back to campy basics following the relative underperformance of Godzilla Vs Biollante. Owes a lot to 60s and 70s Godzilla movies, but also to American SF movies of the 80s - Back to the Future and Terminator have clearly been an influence. Despite all this the film has an undeniably anti-American subtext (in the future, Japan will become the world's biggest superpower, causing jealous Americans to hatch evil plot to stop this) which is actually quite amusing (possibly less so if you're actually from the USA).
Interesting story, some of the special effects are a little variable but the monster battles are undeniably good fun. Given that Godzilla was a bad guy monster in all the films from this period, and Ghidorah is nearly always the bad guy monster, the question of how to resolve the plot without the bad guy monster winning is reasonably elegant. Some surprisingly edgy moments for a Godzilla movie, too - looks, albeit obliquely, at events connected to the Second World War in a way which previous films would never have dreamt of. Definitely from close to the top of the Godzilla stack.

Transaction between seriousness and comedy unflawed

Great cast seeing actors do something they. Wouldn't usually do and nail it
The story of a man who started with nothing achieving getting to the top with challenging tasks along the way.
