Dug in like an Alabama Tic
Here we have a shining example of a crazy genre mash up that nails it first try.

Predator starts off as another 80s action fest, full of one liners, muscles, and explosions. It's ridiculous in all the right ways. (Dutch and Dillon's gratuitous muscles hand shake will always remain one of the most stupid-but-incredible shots committed to film)

As we all know, Predator takes a turn near the halfway mark into sci-fi-horror territory, introducing us to one of the most iconic on screen alien species ever.
The Predator design is badass, and the inevitable unmasking is pretty nasty.

As the movie draws to it's climax, the showdown between Dutch and The Predator is exciting and inventive, and cements Predator as one of the very best Arnold Schwarzenegger films.

Throw in a healthy amount of violence and some Little Richard and we have a hugely enjoyable action film to enjoy over and over.

It's a damn shame that none of the sequels have ever come close to the original and best. Maybe one day...

Thank you so much to Bookishfirst! I received my copy using my bookish first points and chose this book because of the Netflix film Moxie. I loved that movie and have yet to read the book but it is def on my TBR. This is the first book I have read from this author and I definitely plan to check out her other book, Moxie. The authors writing style leaves you wanting more and this was a really good book.

The time setting is in the 1960s and I agree with most of the other reviews that say it reminds you of the outsiders but instead of a bunch of bros there are chicas being badass. Anyone who liked the outsiders should check out this read because the author did base the story on the classic novel so that's why it is super similar. And if you love zines Jennifer Mathieu's book Moxie is perf for all the riot grrls out there and the movie is directed by Amy Poehler!

My prima just moved back to the midwest after being in hollywood and wow did I hear some stories about dark hollwood, woah! I can't share that business but I can share what I read in this book about a Doctor who uses his power and money to control heroine and meth addicts in Cali. I love how the author pursues this story even though the whole city and all the magazine editors are in the Doctors pocket. Honestly the city of Pasadena seemed very nice and bougie before Paul Pringle exposed the city hall and the police department in having covered up an overdose where a girl could have died. A good Samaritan working at the hotel tipped off authorities which led to Pringle finding about the case and believing that there is a cover up. Pringle's persistence in getting a well to do university to talk and the police department to write up a report they had ignored at first just shows a little of his badass detective work. Def recommend reading the whole report aka book <3

GARRIDAN'S MATE is part of the Etherya's Earth series, taking place before the battle between Bakari and Callie.

Garridan was born an aristocrat but prefers being a soldier. Siora is one of the first women allowed into the army. Together, these two are badass... once they can get past the misunderstandings that litter their every confrontation.

This was a great addition to one of my favourite series and I'm hoping to hear more about Sebastian and Celine. I also really want to go back and read Callie's story again, just because I can.

This packs a punch, even though it is a novella. The story flows perfectly and the pacing is spot-on. Everything you could ask for in a novella. A great addition to the series and absolutely recommended by me.

** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Science Fiction meets complicated Romance
I am both a romance fanatic and a science fiction buff and one day I was just poking around looking for something that would blend these two things without being...you know...bad. I've read a lot of things about some lady in an experimental ship who accidentally ends up on a planet where a hot alien alpha dude wants to make her his interplanetary bride.

I did not want that. I wanted a complex story with romantic themes set in space...and that's exactly what this book gave me.

Fortune's Pawn rocked. Devi Morris is a badass, power armor clad mercenary with a dream to join an elite merc unit...but she has to get some expedition references first. So what does she do? Chooses the one ship with the worst track record in the hopes it with fast track her ambitions to the top. While I wont put spoilers I will say she gets her wish...kinda. She finds romance...that gets VERY complicated, mystery, and tossed into what is bound to end in an interstellar war.

9/10, highly recommend.

Unforgiven (1992)
Unforgiven (1992)

Eastwood's best is still Eastwood's best!
On the eve of Eastwood's latest and maybe final film "The Mule" hitting theatres in a few weeks, I decided to rewatch his 1992 Best Picture winning effort to see if it still packs a punch as a subtle masterpiece.

Retired outlaw and present farmer William Munny decides to perform one final execution with his friend Ned and the Schofield Kid after they hear the tale of a prostitute being disfigured by a disgruntled customer. In the process, they have a run in with the local badass sheriff who has his own kind of law he dispenses at will.

It's cliche to say all westerns look beautiful since their nature is to capture the Old West in all its majesty and landscape; however, the cinematography here is the true star. The look of the film is stunning (especially on my new 75" TV) and moves you into this world immediately.

Eastwood, Hackman and Morgan Freeman form one of the greatest movie trifecta performances ever and the acting prowess on display is hard to match.

A true masterpiece.

Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, is the fifth installment of the mission: impossible franchise. This one is better than the fourth one in my opinon. The plot is better, the action is better, the villian is better and the risk/higher steaks are better. I will rank the films after i watch the 6th one, but right now as it stands it goes... 3, 5, 1, 4 and 2.

The plot: With the IMF now disbanded and Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) out in the cold, a new threat -- called the Syndicate -- soon emerges. The Syndicate is a network of highly skilled operatives who are dedicated to establishing a new world order via an escalating series of terrorist attacks. Faced with what may be the most impossible mission yet, Ethan gathers his team and joins forces with Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a disavowed British agent who may or may not be a member of this deadly rogue nation.

Sean Harris was excellent as the villian, second to phillip seymour hoffman. You really got to hate his guts. Such a badass villian.

A excellent movie, a huge plus from the 4th one.

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by Lauryn Hill
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by Lauryn Hill
1998 | Hip-hop, Rhythm And Blues, Soul

"This album is flawless. From production to writing to everything, that album is just good. There is not much more to say about it than that album is fucking perfect. Some albums are just perfect. Amy Winehouse Back To Black is fucking perfect. The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill album is perfect. It won eight grammies or something. Start-to-finish, every song, literally every single song, is a number one. Not in the terms of success, but sonically, it's solid songwriting at it's best. From production to writing, to delivery, to performance, stylistically, I could sing that entire album, it's just so perfect. It's like eating the most well-rounded meal, all of your favourite foods from start to dessert, everything is your very favourite, cooked exactly the way you want it to be. Sometimes I'll put on that album and I just can't believe how easy it is to explain, because it's just so fucking perfect. And the way she came off Fugees and did that was so cool. She is a badass. She is so unapologetic. Oh I love her. She's my generation's Nina Simone."
