Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated The Firm (1993) in Movies
Feb 9, 2018
Based on the book
Mitch Mcdeere (Cruise) is a hard working law student who is being coveted by multiple firms at once. However the firm of Bandini, Lambert and Locke makes him an offer he can't pass up. He and his wife Abby (Tripplehorn) pick up and move to Memphis where the firm is located so he can begin to study for the bar. Just as he gets his feet wet two long time lawyers with the firm die in what is presumed to be a boating accident while they were in the Caymens. Mitch then soon starts to learn of a darker side of this establishment and the FBI wants him to help them put a case together. Mitch must decide what is more important to him. Is it his career as a lawyer or his family and love of his life.
This movie is based on the book The Firm by Jhon Grisham. The book was much better but, the movie did it justice.

Skye (14 KP) rated The Cuckoo's Calling in Books

A good detective mystery.
The Cuckoo's Calling is a great first book in the Cormoran Strike series. I greatly enjoyed the mystery and putting together the clues. The book was a little long winded and dragged in areas with quite a few red herrings. However, book and it's mystery are good enough to keep you hooked throught the parts that drag. This book is definately for those who love a good detective mystery, but not so much for those who like thrillers. I personally will be reading the following books in the series based on this debute.

Accurate predictions
Great insight
Amazing author
A glimpse into the future based on scientific fact.
So basically Michio takes you through his predictions for the next 10 to a hundred years. I can't get enough of this book. From space exploration to home gadgets. This book is so accurate. Brought across in a very common way. Any scientist or geek will love it,

Blazing Minds (92 KP) rated Nightmare Alley (2021) in Movies
Jan 28, 2022
I quite enjoyed Nightmare Alley, it's not your usual Del Toro movie, so don't be expecting the strange creatures we have cone to know him for. I vaguely remember the 1947 version of the film of the book that it's based on, so I couldn't give a comparison to that or the book, but this version has a great cast and some nice cinematography.
Worth checking out if you want to step away from the Hollywood action blockbusters for a brief moment 😉

I have just read the review below and although I did really enjoy this book, I agree with the comments about Layla. Out of all the BDB characters I find her the most annoying and unrelatable. I like Xcor and I can understand his life based on his history etc (I won't spoil the details on this), but Layla is just plain annoying at times. I am looking forward to moving onto the Thief and a different character :)

Yeesh
I don't even know where to start. I decided to read this series once coming across the best TV show ever based on the books and I just HAD to start from the beginning which is from this very first book. I couldn't put the book down and honestly read it within a day. This was the first book to a long way of books where I took books seriously and didn't have the urge to throw them away afterwards or shove them into a damp, dark place. I placed it neatly on a shelf. Already ready to buy the next one since I'm never one to like cliffhangers or not having more to the story. I'm a collector and once I like something. I become obsessed. I definitely recommend this book if you like the mysteries of a world that you hope exists and something written on a place that I myself actually dreamed of being in whether or not its in a book.

I am not usually a fan of anything history based but this book blew me away. In a read it in one sitting as fast as you can to find out what happens. The enemies to lovers added into a well thought out plot based on an actual time and person in the best of ways.
If you enjoy a tale filled with not just redemption but also pain, longing, and a universal acknowledgement that some things are your fault but growth can be had than this book is for you. Part romance but all heart.

Lindsay (1706 KP) rated The Question in Books
Feb 15, 2018
The Question The book gets you wondering about what is beyond the world we live in. It's based on if you or more than one person can create a unity. The author does a pretty good job with the events in the book. While I was reading the book. I felt like it was with the main people that were in the book. It seems like a replica of our congress and president a bit.
I do enjoy the plot of this book. It gets you involved making you start wondering along. There are examples of the projects throughout the book. Will terror win out or will the world win out? You will really need to find out by reading this book.
The book also keeps you guessing what the question would be asked. Why was some of the groups able to produce a unity and some did not? Nathan seems to want to find Unity.
