The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
2002 | Adventure, Fantasy
Out of the LOTR Trilogy, this is my favorite. The scenery is beautiful, the tension is there, and all of the actors do the characters justice. The Battle of Helms Deep is, in my opinion, the best, most engaging battle on film.
It's worth mentioning that I haven't seen the theatrical cut of this film for years. The extended editions are the only versions I'll watch. The additional scenes are worth watching, and offer a more complete story.

A fantasy battle royale! Choose you're hero; the axe wielding barbarian, the spell slinging wizard, the dagger throwing rogue, or the divine paladin and prepare for battle. Every character has a 28 card deck filled with spells and abilities specific to that character. To start the game every player sets their health to 10 and draws 3 cards to make their hand. Every round each player will play a card from their hand, and some cards let you play another card. This continues until there is only one player left. 4 heroes enter but only 1 leaves the battle alive. Each game lasts approximately 10 to 20 minutes and is a fun game for a small group of friends.

Regarded as the turning point of the English Civil War, the battle of Marston Moor was the largest of the Civil War and saw a combined force of English Parliamentarians and Scottish Covenanters defeat the Royalist force under Prince Rupert of the Rhine.

As befitting any historical soldier protagonist of the ECW, it's also one in which (now) Major Stryker gets caught up (fighting for the Royalists). As the author states in the author's note at the end of the story, he'd originally intended to write the story just around the battle itself; however found the story needed the campaign to give it context. To my eyes, that was a good call - starting with the sack of Bolton and leading through the siege of York to Rupert's lightning march to relieve the same, this all leads into the reason for the battle (which itself takes up, say, roughly the last third of the story), providing more flavour and understanding to the reader of what is occurring than just diving headlong into said battle.
