Mothergamer (1601 KP) rated The Expanse - Season 1 in TV
Jul 11, 2017
Fantastic Sci-Fi Series
I've read all the books that are out in The Expanse series so I was excited for the TV series. They got it so right. There are subtle differences from the books here and there, but overall they did a great job of staying pretty close to them. It's a fantastic sci-fi series because it's got all the bells and whistles; solid acting, great story, awesome battle scenes, and everything flows together beautifully.

The end of an epic saga
I don't think this was the best Lord of the Rings by far. It became completely anti-climactic after dragging on for four hours (extended version). The slow motion ending became frustrating and many people got up and left from the cinema thinking it has finished. That rant being said, the final war scenes were brilliantly shot, it truly is on an epic scale of filming.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2436 KP) rated The Last Battle (Chronicles of Narnia, #7) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A great evil comes to Narnia. Can good defeat it one last time? This is a different book for the series, and it certainly wasn't the ending I expected when I first read it in 3rd grade. However, as an adult, I've come to love it. This is my second favorite in the series.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2436 KP) rated Revenge of the Wrought-Iron Flamingos (Meg Langslow, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Meg is participating in a reenactment of the Battle of Yorktown. While she's watching for things that don't fit into the period, she also finds a dead body. Worse yet, Meg's brother Rob is the chief suspect since the victim wanted to buy his computer program.
Another fun mystery filled with laughs, twists, and great characters.

spoiler: jar jar is now working as a clown at an orphanage. highlight of the book. just kidding.
great wrap up to the trilogy even though I didn't fully love the final romantic pairing for sinjir, but that's my personal preference. sinjir + jas imo lol
love how it explains what's on Jakku and how it may explain where snoke may be from, and the battle that happened on jakku, which we see the remains of in the force awakens.

Mel Tebbutt-Bushell (31 KP) rated The Raven (1963) in Movies

Hammer meets Poe!
I saw this about 30 years ago and it's stuck in my mind. Vincent Price plays sorcerer, and if that isn't enough to get you to watch it, then I can't help you.... Some good effects in its day. This film actually made me want to read the poem, which for me, I'm sorry to say, wasn't as good as the film.
Phil Leader (619 KP) rated Time Tours in Books
Nov 26, 2019
Another free short story from Reilly, master of the full throttle thriller. This one revolves around the idea of the possibility of travelling to a different time as a tourist - and as this is Reilly things don't go quite as expected resulting in a battle for survival.
These short stories are nothing more than sketches, the author playing with some ideas so don't expect a lot of polish - or a lot of plot. Just a quick, free thrill ride
