I had watched it when it was released, I was a little over 10 years old.... and I had already loved the movie. I must have watched it again a while later, but until today I had never seen it again. I took the extended edition of almost 4 hours to watch it on my London - São Paulo flight. The film remains strong, beautiful, powerful in its message even more today than in the 90s... especially for us Brazilians who see a government trying to decimate indigenous culture in our country. Charismatic characters, beautiful scenes, opening up a cruel reality of the human being that many try not to see, which is even stronger in a time of pandemic. The length of the film never bothered me, people today seem to be in a hurry to see a movie...
I used to be a weird kid, but I keep thinking about ten-year-olds these days watching this Fast and Furious shit that can't watch anything good. Dark times.

It’s 1643 and Thomas Treadwater has returned home injured from the Civil War. His father’s farm is in Norfolk, and his sister sent Thomas a letter, accusing their maidservant of bewitching their religious father. When Thomas arrives on the family land, it is to the sight of dead livestock, a sick father (a stroke), and a servant held responsible for both occurrences by way of witchcraft. Thomas doesn’t believe in witchcraft though, and decides to investigate what has happened for himself.
This beautiful story really does evoke the time: how women were regarded as witches if they knew too much, looked to beautiful, looked too ugly, or were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. I enjoyed reading about their thoughts on religion, philosophy and how the law worked. There was even a part for John Milton himself.
There are secrets galore, a shipwreck and a real leviathan. The menace seems to be constantly radiating off the page in this dark (and it felt to me) grey and damp time!
Recommended.

A heartbreaking elegy to Nigeria's lost promise
A beautiful and deeply tragic story exploring a family's secrets based in Nigeria. The novel follows four brothers in a small Nigerian village who are given a violent prophecy which shakes their family to the core.
Like most classic African novels in the Achebe-Ngugi tradition, The Fishermen mixes the traditional English novel form with the oral storytelling tradition, dramatising the conflict between the traditional and the modern. It is rather depressing but poignant.

Disney Classic
WHat not to say about one of Disney's most treasured movies. The score is one of the best and Robin Willams as the genie leaves us applauding for more. The story of a street rat who comes into contact with a mgaic lamp that give him the chance at the beautiful Princess Jasmine. The movie is fun, funny and has it's moments of suspense and danger. Ultimate be careful on what you wish for.

Modern day Hemingway without the tangential narratives
Taking the title from the original Ernest Hemingway novel, Haruki Murakami has updated it for a modern audience in different parts of the world, primarily Japan.
It is a series of portraits of men who have chosen the path of loneliness away from women and the void that it creates when running away from intimacy. Beautiful, simplistic with a wonderful flow, Murakami has a spectacular way of building characters and their anecdotal narratives.

Emotional, visually beautiful, and unique
Anyone who has been through a loss of a loved one can relate to this young man in one way or another. After watching, I found myself recalling moments in the film that I had experienced myself almost exactly.
It's not a film you'll forget any time soon.
