"This is the finest movie ever made about art and the romantic choices made by artists. I blame it only for the total crap it’s spawned on the same subject, some very recent. It’s almost too beautiful and too heartbreaking to think about, which only makes me want to stop typing and see it again. I know nothing about ballet or cinematography, but even I can tell when a movie is not merely a movie but an indelible imagination tattoo."

Another masterpiece by Studio Ghibli. This is a fantastic movie with great attention to detail and some fantastic interpretation of classic Japanese mythology. This is a beautiful tale of respect and the hunt for peace between humans and spirits. It gives the message that we need to respect nature and all that it provides for us. We may have strayed from nature in some areas of the world but we can still respect it and all that comes from nature.

What do you get when you combine a Hollywood movie set and a ghost? One thing you might get is Camille Di Maio’s newest novel “The Beautiful Strangers” where she combines these two things with a young woman looking to help her grandfather solve a mystery, while also wanting to strike out on her own. Find out from my latest #bookreview what I thought of this historical, biographical novel.
https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/03/29/some-like-it-with-ghosts/
;

The premise of this book was to invent or create a diary written by Mary Pinchot, a woman who was apparently one of JFK's lovers, whose murder is unsolved to this day. Wolfe is a marvelous writer, and his prose is beautiful. However, I'm not sure that he carried it off completely. Find out what I liked and didn't like in my #bookreview of this novel on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2020/02/21/a-sheepish-pseudo-autobiography/

"Well recently I watched Grand Illusion, which I haven’t seen in several years — no, I’ll say another one instead: There’s one called Toni, that’s Jean Renoir before Grand Illusion, before Rules of the Game, and it’s set in the south of France and they’re Italian immigrants who’re working, who’re laborers working in the South of France. It’s very beautiful, kind of lyrical and very sad; a great Renoir movie. I don’t know if it’s seen that much anymore. It’s great."

Huh...that ended rather suddenly. I guess I was expecting more of a fuss.

3.75 stars!

I liked it quite a lot. The way Zade brought Janie out of her shell and made her feel beautiful while at the same time falling in love with her, and her him. My only issue is the above mentioned thing: the ending was a bit sudden, which dropped my rating from 4 stars.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for older woman, younger man romances :)

A weepy number to end the weekend
This tale of love and loss takes us to the beautiful Island of Guernsey, where pig farmer Dawsey has been corresponding with Juliet. Juliet travels from London to meet the society that banned together over roast meat and literary greats, to fill the loneliness of the Nazi occupation of Guernsey in WWII. Juliet visits wanting to share their story, and instead shares their hearts and lives. A touching story of pain and healing.
