If anybody asks me what I consider a 100% perfect movie, this is the one I would recommend. Although it’s tough to watch, with it’s shocking brutality, it’s also beautiful to watch. The use of the songs used on the soundtrack heighten the beauty of the movie’s horrifically violent scenes, which is one of the reasons that this film is so perfect.

An amazing cast creates characters that you either love or hate, which ultimately makes certain characters’ deaths heartbreaking.

Apparently there are no plans for a sequel which is a real shame; this is an absolute classic and a work of real genius. Watch this, and prepare to be blown away.

Seeing this film is something you have to prepare for, it clocks in at just under 3 hours. You also have to be aware that it's a Malick film, and the dude does whatever he wants.
First, Austria is beautiful, the cinematography, scenery, everything, was gorgeous. I think that there were more scenes of nature, than the actors themselves. It's a long, rollicking journey through the simple story of a man who refused to swear an oath to Hitler in 1943.
Franz's journey was deeply religious and philosophical.
I really enjoyed the entire film, and it was worth almost 3 hours of my life, simply because of the beauty of it. It won't be everyone's thing.

This is a brilliant, emotional and pretty book
This is a beautiful novel. I found it slow to begin with but it is worth while persisting. The story centres around the inhabitants of the isle of Norday is the North of Scotland in the early 20th century. The protagonist Thorfinn Ragnarson is a bit of a daydreamer and his thoughts and dreams are narrated within the novel. This allows Brown to explore a rich and sentimental Scottish history whilst capturing the beauty and untouched lives of these rural Scottish farmers. Furthermore, the novel explores the effects of the Second World War and its devastation on these simple folks. Lovely.
