Fabulous historical political biopic
It's easy to dismiss this as another big budget Hollywood film, however, the fact that Tom Hanks' character has to fight against the American judicial system makes it seem less like a "Make America Great Again" type of movie. Jim Donovan was a unique lawyer defending a Soviet spy, and then making an exchange for a US soldier and student stuck in East Berlin. The historical political nature of this biopic is fascinating. And while there is an element of hero worshipping, there's a good reason to love Tom Hanks.

Berlin book, but in an endearing way!

I loved this book and the author really added in some last minute plot that wrapped up very nicely, not sloppy! The ending is not at all expected but does have some elements that you, as the reader, do see in advance coming up.

I'm sad that this will only be a trilogy, but, it certainly went out with a bang.
Kim is in Berlin under the guise of being an official's wife. Let's just say, that lasts all of 5 seconds. The story is quickly paced, and a tad predictable. There weren't really any loose ends that we're tied up. I definitely plan on buying this series of books so I can read them again.
I wouldn't mind seeing more books about people with talents, perhaps set a little further into the future, or in the past.

Matt Damon second outing as Jason Bourne, with the amnesiac assassin hiding out on India, but then being pulled back into action when he is framed for the murder of CIA agents during a government operation in Berlin, and after a tragedy strikes.
Like The Bourne Identity before it, this has some bruising action sequences (while, perhaps, the 'shaky cam' is overdone), culminating in an impressive car chase sequence through and under the streets of Moscow, after which the film seems to run out of steam but still goes on for a bit!

Not as good as I hoped
A female MI6 agent is sent to Berlin to investigate a murder of a fellow agent and also to recover a stolen list of identities. From reviews before I ever saw this movie I got the impression that this was supposed to be the first female bond film. The story line was ok, the acting as good the stunts were good but the idea of the movie has been done and done better (Misiion Impossible 1). I am a big fan of Theron but the movie was just lacking that humph.

This sounded like it was going to be solely about Leni Riefenstahl, but it’s not. This is a really enjoyable mystery set in Germany and England in the pre-war years, and the Berlin Olympics in particular.
Hitler is in power, and one of his most respected film makers, Leni Riefenstahl, has been tasked with filming the Berlin Olympics. She has to tread a fine line between the film-making she wants to create and that of the Nazi propaganda machine.
Meanwhile, back in England, Kit is training for the olympics whilst holding down a full time job and trying to impress his upper class girlfriend. He discovers he can get sponsorship through Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists, even though he isn’t by any means a fascist.
Alun is a Welsh Communist, who has been tasked with infiltrating the Blackshirts.
Leni seems to be in a state of permanent dread, because even those who are staunch Nazis aren’t safe from being taken down by the SS.
There’s a lot going on in this book, and it sounds like it should be confusing. But it’s really not. It wasn’t fact, unputdownable.
There’s a great mystery threaded through this, introduced by a modern day character, an academic called Sigrun Meier.
Historical fiction AND a mystery - what’s not to like?!
