Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated The Godfather: Part II (1974) in Movies
Jan 14, 2018
Best sequel ever made
Take what you know know about sequels and throw it away. A rareity happens in this film when the second movie is better than it's orginal and that is hard to do when the first movie is one of the best movies ever.
The continuation of the Corleone family out in vegas trying to set their family up for ever. We also get a glimpse of the life of Vito Corleone when he first came to this country. The tie ins of these two stories make this one of the most studied sequels of all time. We see the now older Michael as head of the family and the young Vito getting his feet together. It is kind of like watching MIchael follow in Vito's steps the whole way through. Of course there is tradgey with family involved especially in betrayal and the loss of close friends. A must see
They do make a third to close out the story but eh

Jessica Cashen (1 KP) rated True Storm (True Born Trilogy, #3) in Books
May 16, 2018
Awesome read. Well written with a great plot and characters. I was engrossed from start to finish. Twins Lucy and Margot are safe and together in Dominion City, coping with the aftermath of Margot’s time held captive in Russia and reeling from all of the betrayal. Margot’s experiences have clearly changed her, but Lucy is happy to have her twin back and is hopeful that their close bond will heal over time.
The twins have recently learned that almost everyone in their lives has kept secrets from them. They’re even keeping secrets from each other now. Finally, all of these secrets will be revealed and questions will be answered. True Storm is full of plot twists and surprises that I didn't see coming. I wish there was another book to tell what kind of life Lucy has after evertything she has been fighting for. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

Kyera (8 KP) rated Golden Son in Books
Feb 1, 2018
Golden Son takes place more than a year after Red Rising. Darrow has left the Academy, formed bonds with new people and has a new role in society. It was a little confusing to be thrown into the story with all those new elements because it made me feel like I had missed a book. I had to keep piecing together what happened and who these new characters were. Once it became more natural, the book was much more enjoyable to read.
The second book has just as much (if not more) deception, death, and destruction as the first, and thats saying something. It is full of action, betrayal, hope, and horror that leaves you on the edge of your seat and tears your emotions apart as you read the final pages you just need to immediately start the finale. Highly recommended, but read Red Rising prior to this as it would make absolutely no sense without it.

The Marinated Meeple (1853 KP) rated Gladiator (2000) in Movies

Russell Crowe was meant for this role... he's perfect. (1 more)
Joaquin Phoenix is also perfect.... I can't imagine anyone better
one of my top five films of all time...
Seriously, I know that some people say this is a guys movie alone, but I think it's so much more than that it's philosophy, and drama, betrayal, and legacy, it's about doing what is right and just no matter the consequences and also about just surviving.... I think the testosterone has merit....
Little known fact: Joaquin Phoenix ad-libbed his scream of "Am I not merciful?" Connie Nielsen wasn't expecting it, and her frightened reaction was genuine. Also Connie Nielsen found the two-thousand-year-old signet ring she wears in the movie in an antique store.
If you've nt yet given the movie a chance you should do so... it's worthy of the watch....
Are you not entertained?
Here's some alternate movie posters then

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
A rag-tag group of miscreants is brought together for the purpose of joining their talents to obtain a rare and mysterious book that could change the world as they know it. However, there's far more to the story than they realize, and they're soon dragged into an exciting web of adventure, intrigue, betrayal, and magic.
I'll start by saying this story is a long one, but it's SOOOOOOOO worth it! I never felt dragged down or bored at any point, and there were many times where I couldn't bear to put it down even when I had to. The characters are fantastic, and they each have their own personality which sparks the others. They're all great as individuals, but when they come together as a whole, the dialogue really soars! I'm definitely looking forward to more in this series, and more from this author period.

Kirk Bage (1775 KP) rated Pulp Fiction (1994) in Movies
Mar 2, 2020 (Updated Mar 3, 2020)
Is Pulp Fiction a gangster film? Well, if you define the genre as a morality tale about organised crime, then yes, it is. Of course, it is so much more than that. There is so much going on in Tarantino’s opus that it can’t be clearly defined – which is obviously part of the appeal. You can try not to enjoy every minute of it, but why bother? Once you are in on that amazing soundtrack, and the interwoven tales so unique it hurts, you are in to the end, no matter how many times you’ve seen it already. Incredible dialogue, naturally; colourful characters everywhere, it goes without saying; violence, remorse, betrayal, guns, cars, a gold watch, a samurai sword and a briefcase. A moment of decision or hesitation has a consequence that plays out in strange and mystical ways – as a theme, that in itself connects it to the gangster / crime genre.

Dan (19 KP) rated The Resistance in Tabletop Games
Jul 31, 2019
Quick (3 more)
Easy to understand
Betrayal!
With the right people it can be a great laugh
A quick game of bluff
With Resistance you can expect laughter - genuine, nervous, awkward, or all of the above. It's a relatively simple game to pick up and can be played within half an hour. It's all about trying to bluff and deceive your way to win the game.
You are either a traitor or part of the resistance who go away on small missions, voting for whether the mission fails or succeeds. Only traitors can cause a mission to fail and when it's discovered then that's where the deception comes in.
Who's betrayed the team? There's only one way to find out!
If you fail enough missions without capturing the traitors then they win, but if you manage to find them then the resistance wins. Simple.
