ClareR (5674 KP) rated The Trial of Lotta Rae in Books
Jun 7, 2022
The Trial of Lotta Ready Siobhan MacGowan is a story about the legal trial, and subsequent tribulations of a working class girl. Raped at 15 by a wealthy man, Lotta’s Mam and Pap support her in the battle to bring him to justice. But it all goes terribly wrong and before long, Lotta finds herself alone, on the street and trying to live under everyones radar. She is, however, often recognised from the newspaper articles, where they printed all of the lies from the trial.
This is a story of love and loss, betrayal and retribution, privilege and misogyny, with a background of the Suffragette movement and the First World War.
The narrator is, without wanting to give too much away, very interesting - and much more hard hitting because of that choice.
It’s a stunning book and highly recommended.

Betrayal

⭐️⭐️
Aiden O'Hara has been head of the family since he was a kid, and he's going to keep it that way.
Jade Dixon watches his back. Mother of his son, she's the one who makes him invincible.
But Jade's been in the game a lot longer than Aiden. She knows no one's indestructible.
And when you're at the top, that's when you've got to watch the hardest.
Especially the ones closest to you . . .
I usually love a Cole book but this one just didn’t do anything for me! I found it kinda repetitive and predictable. Which is such a shame as I was so looking forward to it. I had no care for any of the characters at all I think it was kind of a cop out with Agnes and her part in this story I thought she could have been a bit more than she was. Overall it was just an ok read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Only one of them can win.
Kiri Helena Solene is done burying her loved ones. She is going to put an end to this war, one way or another.
Even if it means she loses herself in the process.
But in matters of war, Rowena has no intention of losing. The Corruptor knows Helena's greatest strength is also her weakness, and she has every intention of exploiting it.
Especially if that means removing key players from the board.
The path ahead is fraught with betrayal. The only thing that's certain....
It won't end until one of them is dead.
Couldn’t have asked for a better ending! Also we had a happy start instead of one with death! Was so lovely to see nial get his make. I won’t say much because I wouldn’t want to spoil the end! I’m certainly ready to move on to the Keepers stories.

Merissa (11950 KP) rated Sky Stone (Sky Stone #1) in Books

Completely written from Skyla's perspective, this comes across as a young tale, which is not surprising considering the author was only fifteen when she started writing. That being said, it is a very well-written piece, full of adventure and insta-love, magic and sword-play.
For anyone looking for a detailed, light work of fantasy, then I can definitely recommend this.
* I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review. *
