Dana (24 KP) rated Shadow and Bone (The Grisha #1) in Books

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I did not know what I was expecting when I picked up this novel. When I had heard so many people talk about it, I was skeptical about if I would like it or not. I ended up loving it. I felt like I was in Alina's shoes. I felt every emotion with her. Whether it was the loss or the elation or the betrayal, I was there every step of the way. I can't wait to be able to get the next book and read it! Great job Ms. Bardugo!

This is a documentary about identical twin brothers Alex and Marcus. Alex had an accident and completely lost his memory, and only recognised Marcus. Marcus helped Alex with his lost memories, unfortunately many of these memories were false and the lies were kept up for years. It may sound like a huge betrayal but when you watch you will understand why. Without spoiling it i went through many emotions, happy at first but as the story progressed i felt shocked and even angry at Marcus but by the end i just felt sad. It's worth a watch but prepare for the emotional rollercoaster.

Sweden's bestselling author Karolina Ramqvist brings us a story touted as a powerful novel of "betrayal and empowerment." This short but complex study centers around how one woman, alone and lonely, is forced to grab at anything she can that might pull her out of abject despair after her criminal boyfriend abandons her with a newborn baby, with no money or prospects and the looming loss of her home. You can read what I thought of Ramqvist's latest novel, "The White City," in my review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2017/05/20/harsh-reality-with-a-sweet-dream/
Kristina (502 KP) rated Betrayal (Infidelity, #1) in Books
Dec 7, 2020
I read Aleatha's Consequences series last year. I waited a whole year after reading Consequences to be able to purchase the rest. Despite how it started, I found myself really enjoying the series and experiencing the ups and downs. I was hesitant to read Infidelity, because I didn't know if it could live up, but I truly believe it has surpassed Aleatha's other series. Betrayal was a whirlwind of secrets, surprises, and wit. It was also downright sexy. I read the free e-book in a matter of hours and was left wanting more. I look forward to reading the next installment!
David McK (3204 KP) rated Star Wars, Vol. 11: The Scourging of Shu-Torun in Books

I've just discovered that this is the final part in Keiron Gillen's run of Star Wars graphic novels, edging ever closer (as it does) to the timeline of The Empire Strikes Back.
Any, yes, in many respects it does 'feel' like a finale or even an epilogue, with the disparate plot threads of the previous entries all finally coming together and with Leia, Han, Luke and co all making a strike back at the Queen of Shu-Torun, whose betrayal was largely responsible for the massive defeat they suffered in Star Wars, Vol. 9: Hope Dies.

Wow. Just wow. What a story. This reminded me heavily of The Lovely Bones. The stories bore some similarities. I liked how the book was referenced in the story (pay attention or you’ll miss it).
The story moved along well. I personally had the plot figured out mid book but then again I watch hours and hours of criminal programs so I’m kind of an armchair expert haha.
I enjoyed the fact it jumped from perspective. It gave personality to the story.
The loss of a child. Unanswered questions. A runaway? Murder? Kidnapping? Hope. Heartbreak. Betrayal. Guilt. This story has a plethora of emotions. Definitely a must read.

Nice heart warming story
Romantic comedies are not my usual read but I felt like a change. And I'm very glad I gave it a try, it was a very easy read as it was full of good scene setting description character build ups and an interesting back story too. Well worth the read, even if you're not a romcom reader.
The story is about Katy who is a wedding photographer with her own business who was left struggling after a family betrayal. Katy learns to trust and eventually love again. There are ups and downs that keep you glued to the book from beginning to end!

Melissa C (0 KP) rated An Unkindness of Magicians in Books

This book was framed very oddly in the way you jumped into the story without any background. This makes roughly half of the book difficult to follow. Once the character and situational background is revealed piece by piece you begin to understand the story. I get that I only truly understood the book over the course of the last chapter.
The story follows a female magician as she tries to find her way in the Unseen World. Along the way she encounters murder, manipulation and betrayal. Will she be able to escape her painful past? Will she survive the challenges ahead of her? Where does she belong?
