Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated White Boy Rick (2018) in Movies

I pushed some major weight tonight, when I got up out of my recliner to go see White Boy Rick. I ain't no snitch, but let me tell you, this movie is dope. One thing that is great about this movie is it's not so much about the drugs and that life, I mean it's a big part of the storyline, but rather it focuses on something even more influential and valuable on the streets; family. Now, this can't be found at your local mom and pop video store, you're gonna have to get your fix at your local cinema house. Like a teenager at a skating rink I gotta roll, and if someone asks who said this was a good movie, you can tell 'em White Boy Russ told ya so.

Bleach is a live action anime movie currently showing on Netflix. Teenage boy Ichigo Kurosaki acquires powers from a wounded female soul reaper and sets about destroying evil soul-eating monstrous spirits called Hollows. After about 40 minutes of listening to the awful English dubbing, I remembered that I could switch to the original Japanese audio track with English subtitles, and my enjoyment of Bleach immediately increased tenfold... Bonkers Japanese action with big ass swords and magical bows and arrows. A slow start but lots of fun towards the end.
Bong Mines Entertainment (15 KP) rated T.I.M.E by Kelvyn Boy in Music

Kelvyn Boy is a fast-rising artist from Accra, Ghana. Not too long ago, he released a music video for his “Mea” single featuring Joey B.
Kelvyn Boy – “Mea” featuring Joey B
“‘Mea’ is a big tune for me and one of the EP’s highlights I’d say. It has a Highlife flair which I love. It came together really quickly in the studio. When I heard my producer playing something he’d been working on, I was like, ‘I love that beat, let’s put some guitar on this and start working on it’. So we put some guitar lines down and I just started to freestyle over the beat. My producer said, ‘Yo we need to record this now!’ So we put down the vocal there and then. I just needed someone who can rap and sing at the same to finish it off, so I had Joey B in mind. We sent him the song and he linked us and the next day we finished it in the studio.” – Kelvyn Boy
‘Mea’ contains a relatable storyline, harmonious vocals, and melodic instrumentation flavored with tropical, afrobeat, and afro-dance elements.
The likable tune tells an interesting tale of a young guy who adores a special woman in his life. Apparently, she’s a boss in the bedroom and she possesses a Coca-Cola shaped body.
‘Mea’ is featured on Kelvyn Boy’s debut EP, entitled, “T.I.M.E”.
Kelvyn – “T.I.M.E” EP
“‘T.I.M.E’, my debut EP, is an abbreviation for The Inspirational Moment Ever. From the production to lyrics, it’s strictly Afro-beats. I wanted to represent this sound and Ghana’s sound to a global market.” – Kelvyn Boy
The 8-track project features Medikal, Joey B, and Stonebwoy. Also, it incorporates other musical genres such as reggae, dancehall, and highlife.

Merissa (11646 KP) rated Rise of the Draman in Books

RISE OF THE DRAMAN is a collection of five stories that follow the life of a boy called Croft. Set in a land where dragons and humans live together but don't really communicate, one small boy makes a big difference.
I loved how the stories all followed on from each other, giving greater insight to Croft and his relationships not only with Rueloo but also his nestmates, his father, and his friends.
One of the best parts for me were the dragons themselves. They had just as much to learn about the humans as the humans did about them. It made for some amusing moments!
Whilst this is predominantly a young adult fantasy, I thoroughly enjoyed every word and would love to have more from Croft and Rueloo. A brilliant book that had me gripped. Absolutely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Well done
This low budget thriller was quite the find. It's a very thought provoking, emotionally stirring tale about a teenage boy who starts to realize that his "all american dad" might be a serial killer. The acting was good and the cinematography was decent enough. The story was the shining glory here. It unfolded beautifully and is a wonderful example of how a movie can be EXTREMELY good even without a big Hollywood budget. Everything fell into place perfectly throughout and it even had a bit of a twist at the end. Nothing too gory or flashy in this one but I highly recommend it. Especially if you're into "true crime" style movies. Worth a watch!

Awix (3310 KP) rated Witness (1985) in Movies

Very classy romantic drama-thriller. When a young Amish boy witnesses a brutal murder, it leads to detective John Book uncovering widespread corruption in his own department. He is forced to hide out amongst the Amish, and finds he is drawn to their way of life almost despite himself.
This is a classic movie, but also one of those films which looks deceptively simple and straightforward: there are no staggering plot twists, no big set pieces (except for the one where some people build a barn) - it's one of those very brave films with the confidence to take its time and let the characters and story grow and breathe. The contrast between the ugliness of the big city and the quiet consolations of the Amish lifestyle is carefully achieved; Harrison Ford seizes the chance to lead the movie and give a proper acting performance (this got him his Oscar nomination). A great film; didn't quite make me want to go and live on a farm, but a close thing.

A romcom that isn't a romcom
Contains spoilers, click to show
Natalie is an architect at a business where nobody respects her, and is looked down on except for a male colleague who unbeknown to her has a big crush on her. One day Natalie is mugged and hits her head causing her to wake up in an alternate universe. In this universe every male is being nice to her which makes her feel uncomfortable, however she thinks the way to get back to reality is to make a guy fall in love with her. This movie is definitely a big middle finger to romcom, it has every cliche you can think of from a spontaneous singing and dancing scene to kissing a gorgeous bloke (and boy is he gorgeous) in the rain to which as a romcom hater, Natalie comments on every time. Just like I am pretty, the movie has a strong message to women to love yourself for who you are. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would definitely watch it again.
