Sadie is all alone in the world, blind, homeless, starving, and cold. She's in an area she's never been, the surrounding unknown, and there's no one to help her. However, she fends for herself as well as she can, until the "food man" shows up and changes everything for her. All of a sudden, Sadie knows kindness that she's never known before, and she makes new friends. However, her past demons still haunt her, and she must also deal with being a supernatural in a world that considers them societal threats. Will she and her friends be able to survive together, and what will be the cost of getting to that point?
I was pulled into this book from the start, and I read it all in a day. It's very moving to get involved in Sadie's story, both her present and her past, and try alongside Fester and Michael to figure out just what all she's been through. There are many heartbreaking scenes, and I'm glad I don't have the power of empathy as Chloe does. The way they all work together, for better or worse, and try to get through this strange life of theirs is admirable, and I sometimes felt, along with Sadie, that the shoe would eventually drop at some point. It was a very well-done tale, and I look forward to more from this author in the future.

This book, quite frankly, is one of the most honest looks into both the medical and legal professions I've read in a long time. Dr. Andrews is almost literally led around on a leash after a horrible tragedy, his reputation dragged through the mud while he's used as a scapegoat by not only his colleagues, but his malpractice insurer, the lawyer they appointed to him, and the divorce lawyers ultimately brought into the fray. One of my favorite quotes summarizing this issue is as follows:
As she watched the doctor exit her office, Jordan Davis found herself in a terrific mood. She'd lead this doctor through the legal system by the nose. She and the opposing attorney would take turns discovering controversies. The answers to those controversies would require long hours of expensive legal research. The attorneys, along with their teams of accountants and paralegals, were going to do very well.
It's horrifying to think about it, but our society is only focused on one thing, and that is money -- who has it, who doesn't, and the easiest ways to get it. This novel showcases that almost from the jump, and I think it is an excellent representation. In our country especially, the medical profession is a multi-billion-dollar business which continues to thrive on the backs of the less fortunate. Makes me happy I decided against med school.

Springtime in Colorado, 1885. Johnny Paynter is accused of a murder and flees towards his brother’s ranch in Texas. Although when he arrives, he finds his brother Mark dead! Folk in town think that Johnny is Mark, and Johnny doesn’t correct them. He begins to start a new life as Mark and things go rather well. Until he finds out that Mark has a mail order bride on her way to Texas. Deciding that there is nothing else to do, he takes Sally as his wife and continues life as Mark Paynter. With a relationship founded on lies, how can it survive?
The foundation of any relationship should be founded on truth and honesty. If it isn’t, there is much turmoil working through the mess. But there is always hope, the Lord can heal the hurt and His mercies are new every day. We can always begin again. I have enjoyed both books that I have read by Susan Page Davis now. The Outlaw Takes a Bride is a western romance, with really good Christian principles. She reminds us that we should strive to live an honest life, but even when we mess things up, the Lord is there to forgive and restore what has been broken. This book is action packed with bandits, touching and romantic, and an overall good read!

Something caught me early on with this. It was probably Liams I-know-Im-good-and-dont-need-to-prove-it mentality. The way nothing phased him until he met Devon Candler and everything went right out the window.
Devon could literally be the definition of sex and though she wants Liam she tries to resist him. You cant help but like her, really, with her tough chick attitude. She could certainly look after herself and designed some bad-ass weapons.
That being said, I have to admit I got a little bored in places. It might have been all the description, which Im not that big a fan of, or the really long paragraphs (also not a fan of) and kept putting it down the more we got into the story, just wanting the plot to hurry up and play out. Dont get me wrong. Its a good book and Im glad I read it but there wasnt any introduction to the new world we were in, thats my only problem with it apart from the above-mentioned things but they relate to me personally.
It was certainly something a little different to what I normally read and I honestly did enjoy it.
If you like something futuristic with paranormal vibes then this is probably right up your street. Add a splash of romance and youre all set for an intense journey.

Not for those living the high rise life......
Well I made the mistake of reading this while on holiday in Vegas and having to deal with a lot of elevators!!! When an elevator accident in Manhattan is followed by more on following day it soon becomes clear there's more going on than a simple malfunction and the incidents are terrifyingly portrayed.
Along with the elevator incidents a number of other violent crimes are occurring and Elevator Pitch sets out to take you on a twisty tale to see how these things are all connected or not. Unfortunately the path was a bit too twisty for my liking; constant and numerous POV changes made it hard to really get much of a feel for the characters leaving them all feeling a bit flat.
I did love the core idea and story line of elevators being used as a way to terrorise a city and the little stories around the hapless victims and the incidents themselves were very vivid and tense. However the numerous side threads / red-herrings that added so little to the story made it a bit of a drag in places. No real surprise on the bad guy but I do read a lot of crime books so it takes a lot to throw me. Very interesting concept just didn’t quite hit the high I hoped for.
