Amanda (30 KP) rated Chains (Seeds of America, #1) in Books

I just finished this work last night and I thought it was good, but I didn't think it was the greatest. I wasn't even particularly compelled to see if my library had the second work for check out (I usually avoid reading series, because then I feel inclined to read the entire series).
There were parts of the story that made me cringe in horror. There were parts that made me sad. The work moved me, but not enough to feel immediately compelled to find the second book. I placed it on hold, so I do aim to read it eventually just because...
I guess I was excited to read this book, but then got my hands on it and didn't see where all the hype was.

You know - Like 2.5 stars on re-read - I guess perhaps I outgrew KA? I have read (and own) nearly every single book she's written - I'm starting a re-read to get final books in series and know what's going on - Colorado Mountain I recently re-read and enjoyed so not sure what was up with this one - I thought Indy was a bit annoying, though independence is great - I really liked Lee so I guess it has nothing to do with that - I liked the neighbours and I liked the overall exciting storyline (as usual, I mean that's one place the book truly shines) I don't know - I won't continue re-reading this series though and move onto my other ones I need to finish

I honestly don't have much to say about this book. It is simplistic and written very basically, yet it has a certain something that endears me to read it again and continue with the series. The plight of the Westward Pioneers is something I have a great personal interest and considerable knowledge so it is nice to know that Ingalls Wilder has not elaborated and 'tweaked' too much of her life to make this more exciting. It is a true representation of the daily life of those first brave Americans who went west to find space, fame and fortune; something that was iconic of the era and this book captures that beautifully. Very much looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Cori June (3033 KP) rated Red Unicorn (Unicorn, #3) in Books

The final book. If you have read my other reviews of this series I have suggested that you read the gold unicorn first and then the black unicorn, because that was what I did. However this one you need to save for last. Tanaquil broken hearted has to heal and of course isn’t getting that from her mom (thanks Warabex said with dripping sarcasm). And even though she is angry throughout The series Tanaquil wasn’t bitter. This amazing book about Tanaquil’s continuing journey of self discovery is the perfect ending. Peeve gets more self aware and how can you not love this little pet peeve! It is a journey that is needed no matter how much your perspective changes with a message that you should never forget.

This is definitely a series that is better read one after the other--unless you have a really good memory for books.
I read book 2 around Christmas and had forgotten a lot of what had happened previously when I bought this a couple of hours ago and decided to read it straight away.
I remembered the east and west and the two members that ruled each side, that she had belonged to one but seen something that shocked/hurt her and she had run off to the other...and that was about it.
Sci-fi is not one of my favourite genres and because of that I think I'm going to end my reading of this series here at book 3.

This is my second book in a row of this series after having a break that ended up lasting a few years but i have been drawn right back into Rachel and co's tales.
I'm a little annoyed that we didnt learn who was behind Kisten's murder but after grabbing the next paperback out of my wardrobe i see that it is possibly going to be solved in the next book, so yay.
Other than that, the overall series arc seems to have shifted into a higher gear and I'm intrigued where we're going to go from here, so I'm off to start [b:White Witch, Black Curse|6087668|White Witch, Black Curse (The Hollows, #7)|Kim Harrison|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347508533s/6087668.jpg|3516587]
