This is the second book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series, but you can jump right in without feeling like you have missed anything. I loved the lighthouse / library setting it feels cozy and calm, at least until a murder takes place right outside. I also liked the cast of characters in this one. Lucy has believable problems, and the supporting cast are a likable bunch. The mystery itself was fast paced and not too obvious. I will definitely go back and read number one in the series.

Georgie is off to America with her mother, actress Claire Daniels. But their Atlantic crossing is marred by a jewel thief and a possible murder that only Georgie witnesses. And the danger follows them when they hit America and head to Hollywood of the 1930's.
Despite the number of miles the characters cover, the plot holds together well and we still get to see many of the series regulars, who were charming as always. Being an entertainment junky, I enjoyed this fictional look at old Hollywood and seeing the real people who made cameos over the course of the book. All told, another great read in a fun series.

I was looking for a palate cleanser book and I stumbled upon this one through audible channels. I've always noticed the Magic Tree House series but I haven't ever had the chance to read any of them. When I saw this was on there & I could listen to it for free, I knew I had to listen to it.
This is obviously a very easy read where the writing is written for those just learning to read. It was a cute story and it was a really quick and fun listen. It doesn't stand out for me, but obviously, I'm not the proper age for this book.
All in all, if I have kids this would be one of the series I would read to them. It's educational along with adding an element of fantasy.

I've reread the book, its been a couple of years. As an introduction to Discworld this is a good place to start. I really enjoy the fact that you don't have to read the Discworld series in order to grasp the main themes and ideas, most of the story arcs are self contained.
Samuel Vines is one of my favorite characters.
If you want a popular fantasy trope(s) flipped on its head this is a great series to read. Funny and surprisingly deep this story is an enjoyment for all. It's an adult book and it does deal with some dark things like alcoholism and other adult themes, but I'd let my nephews read it or I'd read it to them.

Fourth book I've now read in this series and I'd say I liked this one the least and probably won't read any more. In this one particularly there was much less focus on the 'mystery' part and more on other goings on. There are also things at the end that don't seem quite tied up - ~I've had that before where some bits are picked up at the beginning of the new book, but it means that these don't stand alone very well. Yes, it's good to read a series, but if someone picks up in the middle this makes it more tricky.
The Royal Spyness books by the same author I've read some of, but I think those are a bit more humorous and these are a bit more gritty and violent.

Forget Cowboys Vs. Aliens, this is Cowboys Vs. Zombies and it's much more fun.
It had a bit of everything I like in a book: romance, adventure, cowboys...and I kinda like zombie books, too (though they have to have a bit of romance in them as well). It didn't shirk on the horror details either with some rather creepy scenes involving one family.
I really liked Trace/Cowboy and Elisabeth/Red. They were both really great characters and I have to say that Cowboy seemed like the ideal guy to meet in a wild west zombie apocalypse. As for Red, she was pretty kick-arse. The secondary characters were cool too.
I'm very intrigued as to what will happen next in the series and can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Gives a positive message
Love this book. I now know it off by heart, as it is one off our favourite.
This was the point I realised that kids books today are soooooo much better than the ones I grew up with.
This book is sweet, clever, and tells a positive story (as do all in the series) about being given brave.
The art is lovely to look at and it is a quick amd easy read for those evenings you are jut not up for a novel or ssome lovely but complex Dr Seuss nonsense.
This is, in my opinion, the best of the series, but each one is warm and delightful, with this one subverting expectations and is a great bedtime read for small children.
